The guy makes Admiral Stansfield Turner look like a giant and he was pathetic. Wild Bill Donovan is the ideal they should all aim at.
I admire Bill Donovan, and IMHO, his role in our victory during WWII is largely overlooked. That said, he was really, in many ways, a 19th Century man, and his insistence on recruiting heavily from the ivy leagues was largely responsible for the infiltration of our intelligence apparatus by the left that lingers to this date.
The Ivies changed a lot between the the time he graduated from Columbia and 1940, and not for the better, and I think his idealism may have caused him to be blind-sided.
if you remember, Donovan’s biggest enemies were J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI.
A banker, and Medal of Honor awardee from WWI.
Problem was that Truman hated his guts. So when Truman formed the CIA in 1947, there was NO WAY Donovan was going to be director. Instead Truman chose some non-entity.
As a result, the Intelligence community has been a pain in the @$$ to every US President since Truman without respect to political party or ideology.
