Republicans warn Trump against Manafort pardon

Senate Republicans are warning President Trump that it would be a serious mistake to pardon his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was convicted late Tuesday on an array of fraud charges.

“It would be an enormous mistake and misuse of his power to pardon,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a prominent moderate, told reporters.

Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (Texas), the second-ranking Senate GOP leader, said that pardoning Manafort “would be a mistake.”

Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Thune (S.D.), the third-ranking member of the GOP leadership, said he is not aware of any mitigating circumstances related to Manafort’s case that would warrant a pardon.

I wonder what Collins thought of Bill’s pardons near the end of his term in office?

Trump should make it a super special double pardon…with sprinkles.

Has he started his second trial yet?

If I were Trump (I'm not nearly that smart, he's playing 4-dimensional Chess while I'm having trouble playing Checkers), I'd pardon him or commute his sentence on Christmas Eve.

They’re idiots

But trump should not pardon him yet. After the midterms he might commute his sentence. And pardon in 2025, if Trump thinks it fair.

They can't control Federal spending or fulfill their oversight responsibilities. They can't investigate corruption. But they can shoot their mouths off to the media about a pardon that has not even been proposed. They are worse than worthless.

Yup.

Doing what Senators do. Run their mouths on something they have no business in. The US Senate has always been the bottom of the beltway sewer. Totally useless.

Exactly what the GOP ALWAYS does - they lay down like the dogs they are and let the left ride roughshod over them. This is why we lose, and why we will lose on the Trump - Russia bullspit, eventually. And the rest of us morons will do what we always do: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The extent of us rank & file GOP types will be to pull our thumbs from our asses, place them in our mouths and whine about how much this sucks.

What Mueller and the rest of the anti-American leftist liberal thugs are doing to Trump, should have been done to obama. Instead, the GOP bent over forwards to take it in the rear from obama and his minions. For eight years straight. Typical GOP action. For being anti-homosexual, we sure like taking it up the rear from the leftists.

I am confident they were never asked about Rich.

However, it’s SOP for the media to ask gotcha questions like this, so they can print the response as if it’s major news.

When they were asked about a passive Manafort pardon, honestly, now, what were they supposed to say?

I don’t think a Manafort pardon is justified.

As for Cohen, he needs to face the music for tax stuff. A pardon for paying blackmail is 100% justified.

Which Congress creatures bribed their sexual accusers with taxpayer money? The skeletons are getting restless.

The only collusion going on is between establishment GOP and the Democrats. Once the ballot box proves vain, all bets are off.

Manafort didn’t turn on Trump. No matter who they thought he was, it takes some spine (or a promise of a pardon) to sit in solitary confinement for all that time, sit in a trial knowing they’d like to give him a long sentence, and not give them what they wanted. And know the ones giving him all this crap, are the guilty ones!

He is a stronger man than cohen.

he's playing 4-dimensional Chess

I'm so sick of this statement. No, he isn't. If he were, he should have played his check mate move long ago. No, it's worse. He hired Sessions, to begin with. That was a YUGE mistake on his part. Sessions never should have been appointed to begin with, but he most certainly should have been shitcanned the very moment he recused himself from this BS Russian nonsense.

Trump has accomplished a lot of positive things in the last year and a half. Unfortunately, the few mistakes he has made will eventually bring him down. Just watch.

It will take the next six years, and then some, to remake the Republican party and rid it of people like Cornyn, Thune, Collins, Alexander, et. al.

Being seasoned politicians, these three definitely know how to answer unnecessary questions with a “no comment” deflection, if they want to do so.

They are letting us know that in the unlikely case the democrats take the House and impeach, they are part of a group of Republicans that would seriously consider a vote to convict.
