I do have to add one caveat to my previous post: There IS one thing for which no safe level exists - leftism.

Jesus turned the water into wine.

Also
I Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses

Yes, He did. “A little wine is good for the belly”.

He also warns us “Be ye not drunk with wine”.

Moderation is the ticket.

Donald Trump is a teetotaler and a fairly successful entrepreneur 😉

A close friend of ours died last weekend of liver disease and other ailments caused by a lifetime of hard drinking. Going to his funeral this weekend. By the time he decided to stop drinking, the damage was done. His wife tried hard to get him on a liver transplant program, but his medical provider refused due to his history of drinking. He was required to attend many "classes" discussing the evils of drinking and unhealthy living. Told that if he completed them all, they would consider giving him a transplant. Meanwhile, his other organs began failing. Suffered for the last six months. Completed the classes, and was still refused a transplant. He wanted to live, but his liver, kidneys and other organs gave out last weekend.

Not a good way to go. He lived life hard while young, and suffered while growing old (50s through 65). If you drink, then drink moderately.

Umm, I think they’re quoting Paul there, not Jesus.

If Jesus disagreed, and didn’t want the words of wisdom in the Bible, they wouldn’t be there.

It was a joke, roadcat, though I am sure you know that.

My dad was an alcoholic for all but the last 15 years of his life. I have done things with alcohol that I am not proud of, so I have to be vigilant for my own life.

I work in Health Care, so I understand.

I just joke about it, but I do that about a lot of serious things.

So are many other things. There is no such thing as no risk, we are at risk from many directions every day of our lives. One person abusing something/anything is no reason to ban others from responsible use.

People wreck and kill other people while talking on cell phones, not a reason to ban phones for everyone. People are irresponsible in many ways while driving that causes injury and death to others, should we do away with cars for anyone?
There are people that beat and otherwise abuse their spouse. Should it be illegal for anyone to marry? Where do we go with all of this?

I cherish freedom. I understand life has all sorts of risk. I understand it is impossible for any law to take away all the risk. Laws that prohibit things do not take away the risk of misuse by someone. Every law, regulation- no matter how minor, restricts our freedom, at least the freedom of law abiding citizens.

On top of that we did make alcohol illegal once before in this country, how did that work out?

I just joke about it, but I do that about a lot of serious things.

I wasn't offended, and know it was a joke. What happened to my friend was that his drinking caught up with him, then it was too late. He lived life hard and fast, not like me and my wife. My wife doesn't drink, and I stay away from hard liquor. So we didn't hang close with our friends when they partied. Mike used to be in a motorcycle gang, and they partied hard. Had his share of fights and some jail time. I always thought he would die in a fight with someone somewhere. But liquor did him in, and he wasted away over the last ten years with various ailments. He was joking around with us a couple weeks ago as he went downhill, but we knew he realized what he did to himself.

Not trying to be a downer on your mood or too serious. Just laying out the facts that hard drinking took its toll on him. Keep posting the humor!
