If they toss out stupid treaties that block ownership and exploitation of resources, I bet we’d make money on exploration. Queen Isabella did have to cough up money to buy 3 ships for Columbus, but in the end Spain made out pretty well after the New World was discovered.

One of my kids has incredible timing. When he was six, he told my wife he wanted to work at NASA building rockets. Last May, he graduated college as an Astronautical Engineer. Two weeks after he graduated, POTUS announced Space Force.
He works at NASA and “fly’s” satellites.
He’s been joking about getting drafted into the Space Force. I think if the opportunity arose, he’d jump on it.
But will we “do the other things?”

Well, we can either build new technology and infrastructure which will create 10s of thousands of jobs and of all levels and will provide new technology and advancced materials, and who knows what new knowledge and spin off products, or we can buy iPhones for crack whores squirting out babies
Tritium is easy to come by here on earth. What is available from the moon is He3, which is part of an "easy" to initiate fusion reaction which is aneutronic:
"3He can be used in fusion reactions by either of the reactions 2H + 3He → 4He + 1p + 18.3 MeV, or 3He + 3He → 4He + 2 1p+ 12.86 MeV." (from Wikipedia).
You might want to first look up how far away those farthest depths actually are. Nothing worse than the kids in the back of the spaceship whining "are we there yet?" and you have to answer "not for another 15 billion years or so, honey"...
Yeah, I guess another trillion on top of our debt won’t make any difference at this point.
Might as well go for it.
