RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police filed charges Friday against three people accused of helping tear down a century-old Confederate statue during a protest this week at North Carolina's flagship university. The charges came as a member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors said the monument known as Silent Sam will be reinstalled on the Chapel Hill campus within 90 days, CBS Raleigh affiliate WNCN reported.
Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall confirmed to WNCN that three people face charges of misdemeanor riot and misdemeanor defacing of a public monument. The UNC police department said the three aren't affiliate with the university.

University and legislative leaders have condemned the protesters' actions as "mob rule," demanding a hard look at the police response and a full criminal investigation. The State Bureau of Investigation has been brought in to assist.

The mess should have been greeted by gunfire by law enforcement. Part of why we are here today is that our government made the error of apologizing for National Guard troops opening fire on violent leftist protesters at Kent State - our government instead should have made it perfectly clear that further violent/destructive riots such as the arson and community destruction at Kent State prior to the shooting would be met with the same response.
Interesting how people who hate the USA vent their spleen on tearing down monuments to those who tried to separate from the USA in 1861.
And a few months guard duty protecting the statue against their own fellow travelers.
“Make the perps pay for the restoration.”
Pay with their lives.

There’s an excellent death farm in Tennessee where they can be studied.
Carolina is in the ACC whereas Tennessee is in the SEC
Present at - if not spearheading - every one of the Confederate monument removals.
Oh, some of these haters wrap themselves in the flag and call themselves conservatives. The Confederate hating taliban isn’t just found on the left.
