Donald J. Trump is no John F. Kennedy.
And a good thing that is, too. At least President Trump is not saddled with two very troubling and troubled brothers, neither of which ever did much to embellish the Kennedy myth. And while Kennedy had a reputation for behaving assertively with the Russians (as in the Cuba missile crisis), he also stood aside and allowed the Berlin Wall be built, with scarcely an objection. In fact, much of JFK’s dealings with Russia, the Soviet Union at that time, was mostly retreat and retrenchment.
The Russians may no longer be Communist, but they are still Russians, and that has been the driving factor behind their expansionist moves since Ivan the Terrible.
President Trump, on the other hand, has been unafraid to come into the shop and bust up things, even to the degree of attacking (and largely demolishing) a Russian-supported mercenary military operation in Syria, to which Putin was unable to raise an objection. Nor has Trump been shy in the least about bringing some pretty severe penalties against specific segments of Russian commerce and certain individuals with ties high in the Russian Federation, with promise of more to come if the Russians do not straighten up and fly right.
Of course they still are Russians. Are you blaming them for that? You’re still an American, aren’t you?
Two Brothers?
