Trump still pretends he is powerless over the Department of Justice
Washington Examiner ^ | August 24, 2018 | Philip Wegmann

Donald Trump has occupied the White House for a grand total of 580 days. Apparently the president hasn’t discovered all the features and perks that come with the Oval Office. Take his tweets.

Early Friday morning the leader of the free world publicly shamed Jeff Sessions, asking his attorney general to open up the files of the Department of Justice so the public could peek at documents concerning everything from the Russia dossier to FISA applications. It would be quite the haul. It would dominate news cycles for months to come. It could happen tomorrow.

Trump has the power. As head of the executive branch, he can tell the Justice Department to jump and, in most cases, they are supposed to ask how high. The current leader of the free world prefers to pretend he doesn’t have the authority, however. Ever the victim, Trump would rather tweet than give orders that might require some painful political follow-through.

Saw it before hitting post but was just too darn lazy to correct it. My bad.

Oh, it's all good.

I mainly post grammar corrections for the readers - not the posters. It's astonishing how many people will see a typo, then duplicate that mistake all over the internet.

nothing will happen until Kavanaugh gets confirmed.

If he fires Sessions now, Flake and probably one or two more will refuse to confirm him for SCOTUS.

We need every vote at this point.

Which means I have no idea what you are writing about.

I was making a sarcastic joke in reference to the sentence structure in Post Number 9. Maybe not my best joke ever. I’ll work on it.

False meme - if/when he exerts his power it will be “Trump Strong-arms Justice Department to Obstruct Justice”...

Disagree, if something was “up” we would have seen it by now...I’m out of “hope” on this issue. I’m solid Trump, but the damned deep state keeps winning.

I now see what you are saying. Goodnight should have been tonight. And it was still lame. It’s what I get for trying to be a smart a$$. Sorry for the headache.

**************

I’m not out of hope yet because Trump has the bully pulpit and can still use it to go on the offensive by declassifying the FISA docs, order a review of the handling of the Clinton email scandal, and explain the need to totally clean house at FBI and DOJ. He can go before the nation and make his case directly to the American people. That’s a powerful advantage.

That said, he is giving up a lot of ground. His latest tweets, whining about Sessions, and his “I might have to get involved” threat is all just a bunch of rhetoric so far. People are becoming impatient for actions to restore integrity and accountability in these rogue agencies.

Trump’s reluctance to assert his authority over his own executive branch has now led to a situation where he is facing legal threats on two fronts. Passivity encourages aggression. Just sayin’.

Right on! If weakness is perceived, an enemy is likely to attack.

Along those lines, it concerns me that he is constantly being besieged by domestic partisan attacks, which might give some foreign leaders the impression that he is being weakened. That is another reason why he must get on offense.

If he shifts into attack mode against the cabal, I firmly believe the nation will cheer him on.

Good points but not the whole nation would cheer him on.

Out side, from Trump on down, must get it into their heads that the Evil enemy we are up against will give us no quarter...not an ounce of mercy. If we lose an inch, they’ll take ten feet if they can.

It is crucial that they be kept on defense and we stay on offense.

I have a feeling that every time he uses the term “I might have to get involved”, he is dipping his toe in the water checking temperature. Know what I mean?
