They weren't found not guilty - the Durham Co. DA refused to prosecute for political reasons.

If my recollection is correct, the DA did try to prosecute but the judge made a ruling regarding the ability to prove the case, which impacted all the other cases, then the DA withdrew all cases. The DA was primaried out of office for the upcoming election.
