Chapel Hill Police Chief Chris Blue instructed Chapel Hill officers to stand down as protesters toppled the Confederate monument Silent Sam, his texts and emails show, according to review of the documents obtained by WRAL News.
WRAL news obtained 400 pages of emails and texts sent to and from the Police Chief on Aug. 20-21, the article says. These were sent before, during and after the demonstration.
At 9 p.m., Blue texted, "Let's give them lots of space," and then, "Yes but do not engage w Crowd at statue. Stay way out."

Eventually they’ll do the same with statues of the Founding Fathers.
Of course they did. What sane person would expect otherwise?

The police are there to protect citizens and property and enforce the law, not take sides in political confrontations.
This is chilling and we have seen it before with police agencies standing aside in urban areas while legitimate protestor are assaulted by Antifa thugs.
It’s time for conservatives to react to this violence.

Amazing that the daily student newspaper reported this instead of covering it up.

I wonder if a lot of the badge-kissers continue to do so becuase they are hoping that the men in uniform will swarm out and fight the civil war for them so they can watch it on TV and root for their team. Then they can say football fan things like “WE sure kicked your butts.” and “OUR offense crushed your defense.”
Statue lynchings are approved with a wink and a nod.
Was there enough police presence to engage crowd safely?
Who ordered the Chief to do this?
Whoever that was, and the Chief, need to be fired and replaced.
Great policing technique! This was perfected in Baltimore and Portland.
