Chuck Yeager weighs in on 'First Man' flap: 'That's not the Neil Armstrong I knew'
The Washington Times ^ | August 31, 2018 | Douglas Ernst

Hollywood’s portrayal of astronaut Neil Armstrong in the biopic “First Man” was quick to elicit the attention on Friday of aviation legend Gen. Chuck Yeager.

Social media platforms lit up before the weekend as news spread that Ryan Gosling’s latest film does not include the American flag being planted on the moon. Critics fretted that “First Man” would essentially turn Mr. Armstrong into a progressive caricature when Mr. Yeager, 95, weighed in.

“Ryan Gosling is coming out with the movie First Man where it portrays Neil Armstrong as a liberal progressive anti-Trump (in spirit) non-flag waiver,” a user identified as @ClarenceSwirly wrote. “Probably agree with the National Anthem kneelers, too; at least in Hollywood’s liberal imagination. For your Info.”

“That’s not the Neil Armstrong I knew,” Mr. Yeager...

Not all of the astronauts in the Apollo program have passed on, so I will be expecting some strong rebuttals coming from them, including people like Flight Directors Gene Kranz and Chris Kraft.

People on the airshow circuit say that Yeager is actually a total a$shole, BTW.

He’s signed thousands of autographs for free. “Total Aholes” don’t do that.

Couldn’t agree more, the commies in Hollywood have tried to rewrite history for many years and it’s getting worse as time goes on.

But...BUT...I thought the moon landing was a hoax. At least that's what the radical left told us. I recall reading in some leftist rag (which may have been some agit prop put out by the CIA, like the Black Panther coloring books they were distributing to Black kids in Oakland🤔😜) that then MLB Commisioner Bowie Khun was paid 5million by NASA to rig the end of the 1969 baseball season so the Mets would incredibly win the NL pennant and ultimately the Series so as to distract the general public from the moon landing hoax NASA was perpetrating.

Gosling’s a soiboi.

Offense was obviously meant by the producers simply by the choice of that weakchin to play Armstrong.

My husband had the pleasure of knowing Dick Frost, in the years before he passed. Unsung hero, very nice guy. These guys (the GOOD ones) remind me of my dad, salt of the Earth 50’s fathers. I have read that Neil Armstrong was that way, Wapak’s favorite son. Sorry he wasn’t portrayed by a Patriot.

Every one? That’s hard to believe.

Did they also mention in the book how many wives were unfaithful to their husbands who worked 16 hour days to train for one of the most “hazardous and dangerous and exciting journey on which man has ever embarked” (JFK moon speech)?

Or are those facts conveniently omitted?

I thought the commie lib progs and snowflakes have proven that America never put a man on the moon and the whole thing was a hoax like Algore’s “global warming” fiasco. Making a movie about it would seem to be a waste of a lot of big drug money to me. Friggin’ Hollowoodies.

I was stationed at Edwards AFB back in the late 80s. An air show was coming up and he was scheduled to do a low level almost supersonic pass by the crowd. That week we were told that the General wants to drop some bombs ( practice types ). So we launched and recovered his F-4 ( was a D model IIRC ) like any other plane. Got back to our shop and was told the the General says thanks. He didn’t have to call. We jumped back in our truck and went to the section where General Yeager was but just missed him.

I have heard that too.

His book was really interesting tho. I saw an interview with another famous test pilot who said Yeager was the best “stick and rudder” man he had ever seen.

I wonder who the German FW-190 pilot was who shot his down? He had great bragging rights.

"The other astronaut's fell prey to the vicissitudes of fame....including bedding down the many willing women who showed up."

In the Hollyweird version, they bed down . . . (I ain't gonna say it)

Given Yeager’s crazy career choice and daring accomplishments, it’s a wonder he is alive at 95.
