If you want to reunite with the kids, wouldn't you go back to the name Sam?? Now that the hamburger is being re-shaped back to female-looking bits, "Charles" is going back to "Samantha", so name-continuity is clearly in this changeling's scrambled brains... so why the 3rd name, avoiding the one name that might have been meaningful to the kids at one point, if you're going through the trouble of getting expensive surgery (again) for the express purpose of seeking to re-establish a relationship with them?
A couple of years ago, I was listening to an interview of a guy who needed knee surgery in the UK....they wouldn’t approve unless he lost near 70 pounds of weight. He ended up going to Bombay to some private clinic and paying for out of his own pocket (staying in some four-star hotel for rehab for three weeks).
I am a (normal) man, but if I suddenly woke up one morning to discover that I had become a woman, I'd live with it. Except for already being married and having children and all - I would see no problem (except for having sex with a man - yeech!).

After the castration it is all just cosmetic surgery/mutilation and make believe.
