Looks like a show dog. If I were him I wouldn’t count on keeping him. In such a chaotic situation I could easily see a back story about how that he got separated and why the owner hadn’t yet found him. Maybe an elderly person with limited ability to search. Someone has to recognize him.

I don't trust animal "shelters" anymore. A number of years ago the local paper ran a story about two fishermen who found a golden retriever in Lake St. Clair along a seawall that was near exhaustion so they took it to the Macomb animal shelter.

The writer of the story checked back with the shelter a week later to see if it had been claimed by its owner only to be told that it had been euthanized because it was "sick".

A few years ago a standard poodle ended up on my deck so I tethered it and called the Macomb animal shelter to ask if anyone had reported it missing. They said someone did so I asked for their number so I could call them and have them come and get it. The shelter said they don't take numbers and expect owners to check back to see if the animal had been brought in and they told me to bring the dog to them. I said I wasn't going to do that since my car was too small and gave my number to give to the owners if they check back in.

Well, two hours later, the owners checked back and the shelter gave them my number........5 minutes later they arrived since they were in my neighborhood.........

Our local animal shelter now has a new director who has turned it into a no kill shelter, replacing the old director who had no love for animals whatsoever and a history of unnecessarily euthanizing the animals.......

My brother-in-law is a retired CA firefighter. He found a stray in a black neighborhood while fighting a fire. He took him home after checking to see if he had an owner. He named him Watts. He says that was the best dog he ever had.
