‘And you try to tell kid that today and they won’t believe you.’ (nod to Monty Python).
If the teachers have issues with it, then it must be good for the kids.
Why not leave it up to each individual school district, so they can adjust it according to what is best for their students and parents?
somebody, probably without kids in elementary, or, too focused on the welfare class who don’t like getting up early, decided to start school AFTER the usual working person’s workday starts. Sorry, boss, I know my state job starts at 6:30am because of state-mandated traffic staggering of all state employees, but I can’t come to work until 9 because I have to drop the kids off at 8:30. Pure genius!
Hate to burst the California idiots’ bubble, but I had many students whose programs didn’t start until NOON be late to their first, even their second classes. If the California classes start later, the students will simply stay up later with their computer games and phones (what-—you thought they’d be studying???) and arrive even later. Lousy parenting is ubiquitous, unfortunately.
We already do that. Free breakfast, free lunch, after school programs... we do everything but dress them. Actually, the middle schools that require uniforms provide them, so we dress them too.
Oh Dear God. I started at 7:30, and I walked to school, 8 blocks. I never complained about the walk or the start time
At the school across the street from my office, kids arrive around 7:15 for homeroom and classes start at 7:30.
California lawmakers vote to delay school start times to allow students to get more stoned before school starts
Istanbul private school, Florida, Virginia. I was a Navy brat.
Most of that was in Istanbul at a private-for US-personnel school. We got an hour for lunch/recess and two 15 minute recesses during the day. I learned more history, grammar, and literature at that little school than I learned in school through high school back in the USA.
How will this affect Amish children?
Our school started at 8:05 AM. The bus got us there by 7:30 AM. I had to be at the bus stop at 6:30 AM. I had to be out of bed at 6:00 AM. Went to bed at 9:00 PM. after studying for 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. Caught the 5:30 PM bus home after Football, Soccer or Track practice.
I did fine.
In Kansas during the 50’s, we had to start especially early in the winters, we walked 11 miles uphill in the snow to get to school. Then we had to walk 11 miles home uphill in the snow.
As a grandpa, I'm just learning this.
Of course. Many teachers think about their own selves before they do the well being of the children.
Same here. Where it got tricky was the 7 am start in high school. I did not do well with that. Was always a night owl.
Next will be the mandatory midday siesta. hasta luego CA.
Why not just get bullet buses?
Because they get too many bullets at school!
Show up at any ski area where the lifts start at 8 AM and see just how ‘sleepy’ the kids are there.
