Gillum: Florida would tax corporations, join other states to pay for Medicare for all

Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) said Sunday that he would increase taxes on corporations in the state to help fund his plan to provide Medicare for all.

Gillum was pressed on CNN's "State of the Union" about his pledge to provide medical care for everyone in his state, including how he would pay for it.

"I don’t buy that," Gillum said when asked if higher taxes are a prerequisite of Medicare for all. "I will absolutely not raise taxes on everyday working Floridians."

“Corporations don’t pay taxes. The monies remitted to governments comes from their customers in increased prices, from the stockholders or from the employees in
reduced wages.”

You are not supposed to know that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I learned in a high school class that companies just pass their expenses to their customers.
After 40 years in business I firmly know that is a fantasy.
The ill informed don’t know about competition or a ton of other factors that make it a total lie.
If you increase my corporate taxes the cost of my product goes up. The consumers have many options on where to buy these days. They will find the same thing cheaper somewhere else.
But it sounds cool so there is that.
LOL…if he thinks Texas is going to contribute its oil money to his Leftist utopian dreams, he will be extremely disappointed. It’s bad enough that our taxes are extorted from our families to finance their crazy ideas as adopted by Congress and the courts.
2018: “”I will absolutely not raise taxes on everyday working Floridians.”
1913: “The average working man will not pay a dime in the (proposed) new federal Income Tax.”
“I learned in a high school class that companies just pass their expenses to their customers.”
Businesses do pass taxes, and other costs, along to customers as soon as they can, if they can.
And if an industry can’t pass along higher and higher and higher taxes and other costs then the weakest competitor goes out of business; then the second weakest competitor goes out of business; and so forth and so on.
Another Liberal who NEVER took an ECON 101 class.
There isn’t a single cost in running a business that IS NOT passed on to the customers.
This man needs to never make ANY headway in politics.
Last I knew, Florida does NOT have state income taxes.
Just EXACTLY what taxes does this candidate think he can raise?
Andrew Gillum (D) said Sunday that he would increase taxes on corporations in the state to help fund his plan to provide Medicare for all.
Higher taxes leads to:
less saving
less investment
less productive expenditure
less demand for labor
lower money wage rates
lower standard of living for the average worker.
Sort of. If you somehow don’t have competition from other countries where the tax is much lower. High taxes are good if you want everything to come from China. Not so good if you are an American business. The market will tolerate only so much.
“High taxes are good if you want everything to come from China.”
Higher taxes are almost never good.
Higher taxes are used to support bigger governments with more people and more power.
And big government never goes away; it just becomes a base for more and more and more. And still more.
Two million pages in the Federal Register - or is it three million pages now - and the bureaucrats still want more.
If Gillum is serious, he needs to advocate a state income tax for Flodida. This will seal the deal for him!
It'll be hard for you to do that since you'll be losing the election. But worst case scenario, you win, you'll also not be providing anything, because the gov't never gave anything to anyone. Even if a mejority is stupid enough to vote for you, at this point everyone should know that you're lying about universal health care, and lying about taxes to pay for it. Thanks Libloather.
Florida corporations, will join other states; by raising the price of their products; to pay for Medicare for all.
Yup; you read that right.
You do NOT want to buy your own insurance?
No problem; as the gummint will fix it so you DO, and add on some extra handleing costs by having a third party to collect the monies!
