Well, I guess folks can still spend their money any way they like. Thanks media for making folks believe their chirrun are more likely to be shot than drown.

"in response to the sheer number of shootings at American secondary schools in recent years"

?

It's far more dangerous to get in a car.

Body armor is sensible. I have a Level IIIa panel in a Swiss Gear backpack that I usually have with me at work. I plan to upgrade to Level IV soon.

I have a rigid MOLLE insert for that backpack too that has a holster, mag pouches, IFAK, goggles, gloves but that stays in the trunk of the car.

I always say that when the urge to add another gun to your safe hits you, consider spending that money on gear instead. But, skip the obvious tacticool stuff. Buy equipment that lets you blend in and blend back in. Basic guerrilla fighting 101 stuff.

So you hold up the school bag to your chest? to your head? Wear it like a backpack and run away from the threat?

Or is it to protect Dick and Jane?

Don’t buy the backpack, most schools allow them in the classroom.

Get a ballistic folio instead

The thing weighs 5 kg (11 pounds), way too much for kids who also have books to carry. If you’re going to stop AR/AK rounds, it’s going to be too heavy. Why not just https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411558224/Talos+Ballistic+NIJ+IIIA+Bulletproof+Protective+Shield++Large+Tapered+12+X+16 a 12” by 16” panel sewn into the backpack for $150, and accept that you’re not going to stop rifle rounds, although Kevlar might stop even those after a textbook or two?

As far as I know for all these school shootings....the perp walked in the front door WITH a weapon in tow.

So rather than identify and intervene in the lives of lonely, vindictive outcasts who are posting psychotic drivel and pictures of themselves with their artillery on their Facebook pages, we’ll make our kids wear body armor. Good God this country is off the rails.

Former Military, former Federal Agents, former Police, with honorable records and DOG HANDLING/TRAINING experience is the solution. or part of it. I do not care how allegedly nuts the “shooter” is, the only thing more scary than a round being chambered into a shotgun is the sight of a K9!

More direct approach will be to allow parents, teachers, and staff with CCW to carry. May it a national low, tied to national reciprocity. Allow Americans to be be more directly involved and responsible for their self-defense instead of relying on slow respond and wait until shooting is over police or, yes seriously, a bucket of stones in some schools.

They sell them in Israel, more necessary than the U.S. I don’t know, but they just happened to start catching orders from the U.S.
