CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Tuesday morning he's not running for reelection.

Emanuel made the announcement at a City Hall press conference that he will not seek reelection at the end of his term. The mayoral election will take place on Feb. 26, 2019.

"Today, the time has come to make another tough choice. As much as I love this job, and will always love this city and its residents, I've decided not to seek reelection," he said.

My guess is, our future governor, JB Pritzker will put in one of his cronies so they can not only increase our income taxes but double up on the property tax increases so they can continue to pay pensions. My job search in non IL states intensifies.....

He’s far left but he’s not far enough left to placate the ultra hard left. He’s literally not left wing enough for hard line socialists. It’s insanity. It’s very much like the mess here in San Francisco. The hard left voters will replace him with someone even worse.

The City is a toilet. An absolute toilet.

That just might be the answer.

Either that or that he knew that his chances were zero with the city's murder rate being about the same as Mogadishu's.

Most of it is a toilet but not all. The part that isn’t a toilet has the highest income neighborhoods and the highest amount of Trump support. The reason these neighborhoods are nicer is that most of the people in them have good jobs and keep the crime lower. The socialists in the rest of the city will stop at nothing to bring down the more successful neighborhoods. I live in San Fran and have been to LA, Chicago, New York and others and it’s the same story in each. The hard left socialists instead of working want to steal from the successful using any avenue available. A conservative like Donald Trump could turn any of these cities around. Instead the hard left is destroying these cities.

Rahm was a dead man walking. He was Jeff Flake 2.0, only with lower voter approval.

I think he’s planning to run for Senate

Really? Do you have some inside information?

Dick Durbin is up in 2020 and Tammy Duckworth in 2022. Which seat will he be aiming for?

They need to run him out of town on a rail. After he was tar and feathered!

It would be perfect for Obama. He doesn’t have to change any policies and as far as we know he has some sort of residency in Chicago. Plus he can be a thorn in Trump’s side.

What I t means is than Rham couldn’t get Chicago over the hump to make it a third world sh*thole, so the next mayor can try it...

#5. Continuing on with your comment.

In Chicago, when you say “he’s doing such a bang-up job” (pun noted). it means two things:

1. For politicians, it means they are having a “political gang-bang” wrecking the city.

2. For street gangs, it means they are having “a gang-banger of a time shooting up the city”.

Either way, they work in tandem to destroy a major US city, wound and kill its citizens, tax the crap out of business and people so that the politicians and criminals make out like bandits (pun intended).

Rahm Emanuel was a “Marxist-lite ballerina without the tutu”. Also without brains (he was a good political organizer to gain power but had no idea how to make things work for ALL), without a conscience, ethics, or sense of decency.

In other words, he is the “perfect” Chicago politician and as long as the Democrats/Marxist/Black coalition exists in its corrupt present form, Chicago is screwed without the KY jelly to make it enjoyable.

I once met Emanuel at a reception. He worked the old ladies like a hooker works a Democrat Party convention.

I describe him just as I described Saul Alinsky after hearing him speak/meeting him - SLEAZY.

New Orleans - the Big Easy
Chicago - the Big Sleazy

Results - the same - their cities are on “The Eve of Destruction”.

#71. I didn’t know Rahm was in the original “TRON”. Didn’t see him in it the other night.

#84. Re your comment: “The City is a toilet. An absolute toilet”.

Yes it is and it is clogged up and overflowing for those who can least afford to suffer.

And to add insult to injury, they, like Venezuela, have figuratively “run out of toilet paper and plungers”.

Well maybe I’m wrong, but I suspect he is aiming at a higher office.

He wouldn't be the first mayor to go for statewide office.

But being mayor of a big city can wear a politician out.

No mayor of New York has moved on to higher office since Reconstruction (though a former acting mayor did make it into Congress in the 1920s).

I suspect mayors of Chicago are more likely to be assassinated than to become senators or governors.

And it looks like Illinois governors are more like to go on to prison than to any other elected office.

Unfortunately, the last Republican Mayor Chicago elected, Big Bill Thompson in 1927, was a mobbed-up fiasco. Pretty much like your average Democrat.

Lemme guess.

He’s gonna be spending more time with his family.

Or, he’s gonna run for president. Being a failure never stopped a democrat from seeking higher office. Ask Biden about that, or Hillary.
