SCOTUS Fight: It Seems Red State Democrats Are Totally And Utterly Screwed

For liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans, it’s an easy choice regarding the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Both sides have made up their minds weeks before these hearings, which have devolved into total clown shows, started this week. With former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl being tapped to serve the remainder of the late John McCain’s term, we have a decisive vote locked up. Kyl is probably going to vote for Kavanaugh. I’m betting McCain would have a “yea” vote as well if he were healthy. The point is the game is over. We have won. The votes are there for confirmation. It’s only a matter of time.

Yet, concerning red state Democrats, it’s a question about survival. Do they want another term or do they want to please the rabid progressive base that is virtually non-existent in their respective states. Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, and Indiana are not hot beds of anti-Trump resistance movement. Still, as we’ve note before, red state Democrats could back Kavanaugh, vote for him (he already has the votes), and ensure their re-elections. The downside is that they will be frozen out of Democratic circles, could reap the ire of progressives who will make their lives hell for the remainder of this election cycle and more to come, and be cut off form key fundraising and financial apparatuses essential to winning elections. The term persona non grata rings a bell.

The democrat leadership know Kavanaugh will be confirmed. The confirmation hearing antics are all for show. The red state democrats will be given dispensation to “break ranks” to save their hides.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation is likely. It is not a lock in the bizarro world of the US Senate.

The collectivists do have some reason to hope. It does look like Willard will win in UT, even though too late to vote against Kavanaugh.

If McConnel were smart he would make these dems vote and once they voted yes make sure that some republicans voted no so that the Dems would be the ones to put Kavenaugh over the top. Heads would explode!

Uh, he’s dead, Jim.

That website has Cruz of Texas up by only a single point and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee trailing by 6 points.

That is total BOGUS polling. No way is that credible.

Damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

They put themselves in that position.

Too bad for them.

One would think that if 50 Republicans are set to vote "aye" Chuckie would cut several Rats a break and let them, too, vote "aye".

But Chuckie, like the rest of the Rat Party leadership,is a disciple of Saul Alinsky so that might not happen.

I wouldn't put it past the Democrats to drag McCain's body from the grave and pronounce his vote against Kavanaugh.

Watching off and on CSPAN 3 days.
I never thought I could dislike Dems any more than I did before all this.
My disgust is overwhelming.

This Kavanaugh is such a good and decent human being and this scum is trashing him for political theater.
Personally I hope they all rot in hell

Blumenthal today was more putrid than ever before.

Don’t they voted alphabetically? They can do a vote estimate, but they won’t know if the GOP will stay united until the votes are cast, right?

From what Matt Vespa wrote, he very badly wants those red state Democrats to vote against Kavanaugh. Is he a radical lefty or just stupid?

Turning it into a circus was a tipoff that they can’t persuade any R’s to break ranks and thus don’t have the votes to stop K. If they still had hopes of persuading R’s to flip, they wouldn’t be acting like spoiled chikdren. Meanwhile, since they aren’t going to win, they have to give their base something, even if it’s just a tantrum.
