It’s emblematic of how much respect for Congress has been diminished so that Sasse’s articulation of the obvious should be acclaimed as noteworthy.

Well stated.

My words from an earlier post: He’s very smart. Just ask him and he will tell you. Or he will tell you without being asked. He only wants to make sure that you know he’s very smart. I called his office after I heard him going on about how bad Presided Trump’s tariff strategy is. I reminded the staffer that Ben Sasse didn’t make billions of dollars in the shark-infested waters of NYC. I also told her that while I was sure that Ben Sasse was very smart (see above) he wasn’t as smart as he thought he was and that President Trump certainly wasn’t as dumb as the Senator thought he was. I also told her that compared to the President Ben Sasse is a pup.

“Never Trumper” is such a juvenile, simplistic, school yard term. I equate it to those who are too simple minded and lazy to listen to a point of view that opposes their own and understand why the person has taken up that position. It’s is hard to argue someone being anti anything who votes 87% of the time with that they’re supposed to be against. Instead, some would rather blurt out the first thing that pops in their brain because they equate a policy or positional disagreement as a direct attack on themselves or President Trump personally. That is no different than the last regime and their fanatical supporters. They loved the man, he made them starry eyed so that any action he conducted was NEVER to be argued with. Because, well, he was the lord almighty.

I too have had POLICY or POSITION disagreements with our President from time to time. It is ok to have disagreements with the president 13% of the time and not be labeled.

“Can be an ass” in this case is a gross understatement.

I can’t help but wonder what the comments would look like if the source of the words was anonymous? If folks didn’t know this was said by Ben Sasse?

No not really I just hate the term. It’s too simplistic and simple minded. It truly makes one sound like a lap dog and in a slobbering love affair with our president. Don’t get me wrong the man is amazing but you won’t find me using terms to describe someone in minor opposition with certain policies because while they may disagree with certain positions they still back him 87% of the time. We aren’t robots, we don’t mindlessly follow, praise and idolize. When he does well praise him and back him feverishly but when he gets it wrong hold him to account. Those are the times I refer to when he does have it wrong the sheeple still wail on with the over used, childish, never Trumper moniker

I am highly suspecious of anyone, D or R (or even FR) who thinks they are smarter than anyone else.
In a sense you are of course right. I’ll go you one better and say that it is probably not atypical of FReepers to have been exposed to a lot of people who, as fellow children, seemed to be not especially smart. But that is an artifact, primarily, of the fact that the school system shows some children at a artificial disadvantage which is not entirely representative of how they will function in a real society.

But you show me someone who disagrees with me, and I’ll show you someone who seems to me to be manifesting less intelligence than, at that moment at least, I think I have.

And I think that’s just human nature. But it oozes from every pore of Obama or Gore when they undertake to explain something which they just found out yesterday, but which should have been obvious to them and everyone else from their youth up.

Thanks bigbob, apparently he votes one thing (87 percent of the time) and says another.
