Sustained winds are bad, but the wind gusts are gut wrenching (if you’ve ever rode out a high cat storm). You never forget that sound.
Just leave. Especially if you have children. It’s terrifying.

Been there, done that. During Ike, the winds blowing through pine trees sounded like a terrifying screech. Real eerie sound.
At the very least, get gas in your cars tonight. When everybody is thinking of leaving, expect the gas stations to run dry early.
