WASHINGTON — More than 100 U.S. Marines were sent as reinforcements to a remote coalition outpost in southern Syria on Friday after Russia threatened to attack militants in the area, the Pentagon said.

The troops were flown by helicopter to the base at At Tanf — a small town near the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan. The base is used by U.S. special forces to train Syrian fighters who are confronting Islamic State militants.

First time Russians attacked was February 7th. To use Sec. Def. Mattis's words - they were annihilated then.

Remind me again; when did Congress authorize the invasion and occupation of Syria?

Should be interesting to see if Putin is prepared to lose some Navy ships and aircraft. I’d think not, given the cost in both capital equipment and casualties.

All of the parties in Syria need to agree to de-Islamize Syria.

“The U.S. does not require any assistance in our efforts to destroy ISIS in the At Tanf deconflicition zone and we advised the Russians to remain clear,” Brown said.

What is Brown talking about?
Are our troops directly involved in fighting ISIS or are we more like cheerleaders, for others who are, and are we just warning the Russians to be careful and not harm us in their attempts to crush ISIS and other anti Assad groups? - Tom

Kurds are US allies and the legitimacy of the inviter of Russians, President Assad, son of President Assad, is questionable.

Syria is set up wrong and it was always known it will blow up. The way the father Assad set it up was that 10% of the population - his religious sect of Alawites - rule over the rest of the 90%. That setup is inherently unstable.

Now the old Assad died and his son was “elected” president with 99.9% of the votes, but the son doesn’t have his father’s instincts to hold this inherently unstable thing under his rule. There was a drought and the hunger protests started. Young Assad’s answer was to release all the islamic fanatics from the prisons in hope to delegitimize the protests. He is that incompetent!

So my opinion is that the current rule structure of Syria is not going to work anyway plus they’re asswipes supporting terrorism in Iraq.

“U.S. military officials bluntly warned Russian and Syria not to go forward with an attack within a 35-mile-wide security zone that the U.S. maintains around Tanf, a key strategic outpost.”

We have a zone where jihadis are protected from Syrian government attacks. Shameful.

Which still doesn’t give us a right to intervene.
What, in our past meddling in the ME, justifies our involvement in Syria?
Is Iraq such a success that we should want to accomplish the same in Syria?
Those people are not worth our blood and treasure. Bring our troops home.

I'll second that. I'm totally disappointed and disgusted that President Trump has fallen for the Deep State agenda.

“There was a drought and the hunger protests started. “

They were hungry and a revolt just “happened”. LOL Wikileaks explained how it was a USAID/CIA project to destabilize Syria. Part of the Arab spring designed to carry out the Saudi plans for the region. You whine about Alawite control but forget something. Sunni countries like the Saudis and the emirates, are brutally repressive. There is NO vote. Women are property. Judiasm and Christianity cannot be practiced openly.
Assad’s Syria let women wear what they wanted, drive, work where they wanted, divorce, and even sip wine in a bikini on Latakia beach. You could have a Christian church, and there was even a synagogue for a small Jewish population in Damascus.

Removing Assad is our war aim, not defeating ISIS. ISIS was our tool until it got out of hand. That is why we are not very aggressive with them still, while bombing Syrian forces every chance we get.
Removing Assad merely ensures a new Sunni theocracy will emerge.

It’s unAmerican to protect Al Qeida/FSA/or ISIS.

1) Wikileaks is a bunch of lying faggots. Assange, Bradley/Chelsea Manning, and Snowden are all traitors. Only reason to read wikileaks is to study enemy propaganda.

2) You listed FSA among the terrorists. FSA is not the terrorists. It is an army where 95% of the grunts are not Alawites and 80% of the officers are splitting.

3) Kurds are about the best people in this area and American allies.

.
Assange, Bradley/Chelsea Manning, and Snowden are all national heroes.

Everything they revealed desperately needed to be revealed.

We are stronger morally for their effort.

We are also there at the request of Jordan, Iraq and other regional nations in a counter-terrorism and WMD containment operation.

ISIS and Iran are serious threats to several nations in the region. Assad has not had control of South Eastern Syria for seven years.

The US base, at the border of Jordan, Syria and Iraq is in addition to other US and coalition bases in Iraq and Jordan which together check the movement of ISIS in the region as Assad has not operated in the region for years and ISIS had free reign.

We were working with the Russians and Syrians, coordinating operations with them when ISIS was powerful. Many nations were threatened by ISIS and there was cooperation fighting ISIS. As soon as ISIS was weakened and retreated Russia and Syria re-neged on the agreements and asked US forces to leave -so they could pursue attacks on non-Assad aligned rebels even ones with US support.

After renegging on deals Russia and Assad decided to send Russian mercenaries against US troops in a brazen nigh time attack without concern or remorse for the results.

So now they’ll send regular forces. Putin upping the ante and confronting the US for the sake of Assad and the Syria-Russia-Iran ME axis.

last time the Russian mercs had no idea what forces they faced and as you said they were “annihilated’ filling all available beds in Moscow and At Pete hospitals plus over Russian 200 dead.

Now the Russian have brought up their advanced jamming units, and they have been playing havoc with our air to ground coms among others making it difficult to impossible for AC130s and arty. Now the Russian navy has taken up positions we uses to launch missiles into Syria.

Will be different this time

Please reconsider. I don’t want to think the termites have gone so far.

Manning ... a freak committing treason and sending this helicopter video that’s going to be misrepresented by the Wikileaks organization. Along it he stole 700,000 secret documents and gave it to far-left faggots.

Snowden - Typical loser. Hitting every point that a police should look for in a potential mass shooter. Oh, now we hear he was a “special forces candidate”. I have seen a count by an army recruiter showing clearly that his 100 times in the army before he washed out are in no way showing someone who even made the selection. He checked the box of “would you like to be considered for special forces” and that was it.

Snowden, fucking faggot, stealing all the secret information and then first going to China and the to Russia and idiots still insist he is not a trator.

Now this I know won’t be easily accepted, but I say another thing ... his ballerina girlfirend ... it may seem far fetched, but FReepers with knowledge have said it publicly ... Russians have some in in recruiting ballerinas.

Another freeper said this and my first instinct was to call him crazy, but after learning about how the KGB worked I now call it insightful.

Or maybe it is this ... Mattis sending in 100 more marines is saying “Don’t push it, or I give you a war you won’t believe”.
