How did they flee the plane? I would have thought that, given their suspicious behavior and the general situation, the plane plane doors would have been kept closed until agents could have questioned the travelers.
The source for this thread “why.org”....when you go to the story on Why.org their link to the Delaware paper that supposedly ran this story comes up as a 404 error.
1.The fbi had thier smoking hole and the trail left behind by the ones who crashed the plane. 2. The highjackers had plans to abort and run home if it did not work or if this true they may have used thier escape route effectively. A lot of information holes in this article to be able to speculate any further.

I heard about it just after it happened.
I was a flight attendant at that time and we also heard stories of box cutters being found in seat back pockets.
I wrote of my friend who had several muslim men on her flight that got turned back to the gate. She spoke with each passenger individually as it was taking a while to get gate space. The muslim men weren’t seated together but they all had the same reaction. While the other passengers were nice and understanding, the three muslim men each pursed their lips and slowly turned their heads away from her and angrily looked out the window. They were all seated far apart from each other in an attempt to look like they weren’t together.

I don’t understand why they would want to suppress this information. If anything you would want to demonstrate the necessity and effectiveness of the decision to shut down the nations airways. Not to mention an APB for the hijackers. But then again this was the same administration that let the Saudis fly home when everyone else was grounded.

I read after 9-11 that for several weeks the cleanup crews were finding box cutters stashed on several planes.

I flew in 2000 to Sand Diego and had a 3 inch blade pocket knife on me. No problems. On the way back, the blade length was measured and it was still A-OK. No more.
The article you quoted had a link down in the text to the Gannett-owned paper in Delaware in which Timmons once again old this story. The story was supposedly in yesterday’s paper. Yet, the link to it is now dead just a day later, and the paper’s site itself seems to have purged her story today. t doesn’t show up in a search anywhere.
