France is famously Americas oldest ally, but more than half of French people no longer consider the United States a reliable partner, according to a survey released Wednesday.
Just 44 percent said the US was a trusted ally under President Donald Trump a 33-point plunge since the same survey was done in May 2014, when Barack Obama was in the White House.
Only 17 percent said they had a positive opinion of Trump in the IFOP poll, commissioned by the American Jewish Committee advocacy group, Frances Foundation for Political Innovation and the Sursaut think-tank collective.
Some 54 percent said they had a very bad opinion of the Republican leader.
Supporters of the far-right National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen formerly the National Front were the only group to express a more positive opinion, with 42 percent backing Trump.

France hasn’t been a trusted ally since the American Revolution.
What a coincidence.
I don’t consider France to be a trusted ally either.
“French” as in a recent migrant from Senegal living in a slum outside Paris?
Or French-French, like a villager from Carcassonne, who’s ancestors have been in France for Millennia?
The French haven’t been reliable for at least a 100 years.
Finally we agree on something. They are not our ally and we should not be theirs.
The only time they are an ally of ours is when our young people are fighting and dying to protect them.
They are NOT worth our time or attention.
To tell the truth, after “O” in the WH, how could any of them trust the US/
Ph noes! My life is shattered..
I don’t put much stock in IFOP (aka the French Institute of Public Opinion) myself. The current CEO used to be a union boss who has a reputation similar to that of a mafia boss. We aren’t going to get the real story out of AFP of course.
Was wondering the same damn thing. I used to live in France. The older people I knew were still very grateful to the USA. And I know where I went to school there is now a very Muslim town. I cant imagine.
I can’t say that I know anything about IFOP, but their findings are pretty much in step with French behavior through-out our modern history especially when there is a Republican in the White House.
That said, I have always felt more at home in France than Britain. I found the people more welcoming and friendlier. :-)
Too bad we couldn’t go back & do part of WWII over, the part where we helped them & died for them.
Allies? Aren’t those people or countries who rely on each other for support? The French cut off the heads of their royalty, who ran the last French government that helped Americans and that was 230 years ago. Since they became a democracy, they have done nothing to support the US, although they have relied on us to save them in two world wars. The last “alliance” we had with them was NATO, and DeGaulle pulled them out of the military part of NATO in the 1960s, over 50 years ago.
As far as I’m concerned, the French have not been allies we could rely on since LaFayette died. They need to wake up and smell the burning espresso!
Cheese eating surrender monkeys!
Cheese eating surrender monkeys!
The figures I saw showed almost 9400 American soldiers buried in France. Compare that with the number of French soldiers buried here.
If true, who will they call when another foe threatens to kick their ass? Obama? Hillary? Putin? Fake News.
I guess we can’t count on the French to help if we are attacked by Canada then.
Obama????
Bwahahahahahahahaha
That’s rich....
