Pointing out that a Chinese company will soon start operating Haifa Port, he said that Israel needs to create a mechanism that will examine Chinese investments to ensure that they do not put Israels security interests at risk.
When China acquires ports, Horev said, it does so under the guise of maintaining a trade route from the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal to Europe, such as the port of Piraeus in Greece. Does an economic horizon like this have a security impact? We are not weighing that possibility sufficiently. One of the senior American figures at the conference raised the question of whether the U.S. Sixth Fleet can see Haifa as a home port. In light of the Chinese takeover, the question is no longer on the agenda.

It is stupid to let foreign companies control your major ports. However, It is one thing to operate a port in peacetime and a totally different thing to keep it in the face of hostilities. I am sure plans are in place to roll up the Chinese should hostilities break out.
When I hear of China doing maintenance of foreign ports, my immediate gut response is “someday they are going to be booby trapping that port with nukes, to screw us and our allies in a future conflict”.
When we gave China our trade, we created a global monster.
Our leaders had all the foresight of a three year old wanting poisoned popcorn.
Sounds like the Israeli government doing an end run around the unions, which have a stranglehold on the Israeli economy. I’m surprised they haven’t thought through the national security implications of this move, especially with regard to USN port visits.
It is globalism, the way things work nowadays.
Trump has taken a hard line on trade with the Chicoms for good reason.
Israel has problems and I agree with you its up to Israel to figure out its problems, let us worry about ours.
Israel was founded in the main by socialists who wanted a welfare state, a labor union (Histradut) and on top of that had to spend money on national defense big time.
I read David Ben Gurion explaining that in the early days defense spending required that the government only pay for elementary school education.
They couldn’t afford to provide a high school education to the children back then.
The Chinese nickname for the port is Troy.
Hard to make sense of this article. All i know is that Bibi and Trump have been close friends for years and neither would harm the relationship between Isreal and the USA. I trust them both. This story does not add up.
How long before the PLAN has ships visiting the ports on a more or less steady rotation, making those two ports defacto PLAN bases?
Untold story made short: the attack was known before hand but nothing was done.
Initial recon aircraft surveilling the USS Liberty were properly marked, but almost all the attacking aircraft lacked markings:
This is a huge sign that the attack was carefully planned out ahead of time.
TWO times LBJ called back carrier planes desperately launched in order to render assistance.
When against all odds the Liberty stubbornly refused to sink one Israeli pilot suddenly roped into the expanded attacks flat-out refused to participate, pointing out the Liberty’s clear markings, and was incarcerated.
There was a much bigger chess game at play and the Liberty’s crew were pawns.
FYI: The complete story was truthfully told in an article in the NYT - with only methods and means omitted. How do i know? Cause it was on a NSA BB stamped Top Secret CW ...
We need to stir up the Muslims and the Chinese against each other and get some popcorn.
“This is a surprising and troubling bit of news. “
History is full of examples where aggressive powers use the mechanisms of the countries they are aggressing against to their advantage.
Here’s an example.

Israel inviting Chinese spies in.
Stupid !
The Chinese company is perhaps the best port operations company in the world.
As I recall, the port of Shanghai handles the largest volume of container freight of any port in the world.
The Chinese can be nationalistic as they want and spread red/fascist economic hegemony all over the world but any one that tries to stop it is a jingoistic anti globalist neanderthal.
Chinese know how to bribe, that is for sure. Follow the money.
