A firm grasp of civics should come before tackling current events. Unless we are just going to chuck the Constitution and go full tilt Communist as Howard Zinn wanted. Did he ever pen a peoples’ history of global Communism and explain the 100,000,000 dead? Did he tackle slavery in the 20th century under Communism?
I excelled in Civics throughout my schooling. I attended 3 different high schools and had civics taught in every grade.
We learned about court, mostly. Mock trials and the like. What I learned in Civics makes me foam at the mouth at how things are handled today.
Government probably doesn’t want to teach civics because then everyone will know how terrible they are.
