I notice more and more often that these so-called 'journalists' and 'reporters' and 'editors' are bereft of any knowledge of proper sentence structure or logic.

And the same with people who write TV commercials. I'd have flunked third grade English if I turned in assignments like what now is broadcast to millions of people.
