Oh, I thought this was a secession thread...never mind.
The United Farm Workers and Cesar Chaves were responsible for the elimination of the Bracero Program that provided passes for Mexican farm workers. The claim was that the Mexicans were taking American jobs. So, the Braceros were kicked out and within two years it was obvious the UFW could not take up the slack. The farmers, not being dummies, introduced many farm machinery labor saving devices, and many hybrids that compressed the harvest season. The farm laborers that remain today are better equipped and better trained, and certainly they are better educated. They know the UFW bosses skim the cream and could care less about the workers. It’s a different world.
