Why Maryland police aren’t investigating the Kavanaugh allegations

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has called for a “full investigation” into allegations that Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford 36 years ago, when both were teenagers.

But neither the Maryland State Police, which reports to Hogan, nor police in Montgomery County, the Washington suburb where the assault allegedly occurred, are likely to launch such a probe.

Here’s why: 1. Hogan’s spokeswoman said last week that the governor “has never used the state police to pursue investigations at his personal whim. That is a very dangerous and slippery slope.”

So while Democratic state lawmakers have asked Hogan to initiate an investigation within Maryland, he is not planning to do so. Instead, he is calling for an unspecified independent investigator, who would presumably report to federal officials.

Yes she is a pawn.

She is a useful idiot.

There will be more puff pieces in the media about how her life is upside down. She will get sympathy from Whoopi Goldberg soon about how her life is upended. How her requested anonymity was violated etc.

Well Christine, it wasn’t “evil” Republicans who outed you to the media. You can thank your own fellow Democrats for that.

If Kavanaugh has a juvenile record - the Rats will find a way to unseal it.

Nothing remains secret and not even that if they get their hands on it and they will milk it for all its worth.

It’s my understanding that at the time that Ford claims these events happened Maryland had a 1 year statute of limitations on allegations such as these.I believe that at some point later they did away with the statute of limitations...but that move wouldn’t effect events that might have occurred before the move due to the prohibition against “ex post facto” laws.

The letter is very specific and states “Furthermore, the law at the time the offense occurred is the law that must be applied to any charges that might be brought. For example, in 1982, assault and attempted rape were both misdemeanors and subject to a one-year statute of limitations.”

The letter is signed by both the Montgomery Chief of Police and the State’s Attorney.

Montgomery Chief of Police should be “Chief of Police, Montgomery County Police Department”.

Don’t worry; if the Rats can’t get him on that, they will make one up.

“....Kavanaugh convicted in the court of public opinion of something he might have done as a teen. We really have taken leave of our collective senses....”

Without signed/sworn affidavits, police reports, sworn witnesses, etc. this is a HUGE nothing burger that Grassley should have totally ignored right from the start. Whadda bunch of clowns. FineSwine should be run out of DC...tarred & feathered.

I’m beginning to really hate this country and where it’s headed.

I don’t think Trump will be enough to save, merely give it a temporary stay of execution.

As long as they come forward and identify Ford, the place and the date I'd be happy. I want Kavanaugh completely excluded as a suspect and Ford's lies exposed. Having her driver that night come forward would be icing on the cake.

I believe Ford remembers the driver, but the driver refuses to go along with Ford's lies. Hopefully, FineSwine has the driver's name, has been withholding that info and is caught and charged with a felony for perpetrating this fraud. That would guarantee a red tsunami in the midterms.

Well, her allegation was actually that Kavanaugh (or maybe one of the guys who contacted Breitbart, or maybe the Cookie Monster) pinned her down on the bed, covered her mouth to stop her from screaming and tried to take her clothes and swimsuit off, and Mark Judge (or maybe it was Big Bird) subsequently pulled him off of her.

Sounds a little more serious to me than how your put it.

As I understand it, the statute of limitations is now 13 years past the victim’s 25th birthday.

Class envy and identity politics are things that don’t lend themselves to creativity.

“So while Democratic state lawmakers have asked Hogan to initiate an investigation within Maryland, he is not planning to do so. Instead, he is calling for an unspecified independent investigator, who would presumably report to federal officials.”

So a Republican Governor is going to get an unspecified independent investigator to investigate Kavanaugh and this investigator would report to federal officials.

Seriously, another one of ours eating our own. Can you imagine any Democratic Governor doing this to one of their SC nominee;s because the Repubs asked for the investigation?

And you wonder why Repubs and Indept may not vote for Repub party come November.

The calendar, the names mentioned at Timmy’s party, people who will say Brett was a drunk, blacked out, maybe the 65 women who wrote a letter of support for Brett. Definitely his college and high school people.

What is not clear are they also going to investigate Ford and the folks she mentioned>

“Furthermore, the law at the time the offense occurred...”

Notice the offense is not “alleged” anymore. Ipso facto, the Maryland PD have publicly characterized a nonevent as a crime. One with no crime scene, no date, no forensics, no witnesses.

I suppose it could be a mistake, but forgive me for being a cynic.

On Thursday, Judge Kavanaugh gave the Pubbies all the momentum for the midterms. By Friday, they dutifully gave it all away. I fear the only “red wave” we’ll see now is the GOP waving goodbye to its majorities.
