Here’s How To Successfully Debate A Democratic Socialist
http://thefederalist.com ^ | SEPTEMBER 28, 2018 | By Helen Raleigh

My opponent came prepared...She claimed that she didn’t want to get rid of capitalism...I came prepared too. While a foot soldier of democratic socialism like her treats capitalism as a misbehaving puppy, my research reveals the leadership of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) view capitalism as their ultimate foe that ought to be destroyed. DSA’s Vice-Chair Jeff Stein, writing for Vox, declares that DSA believes in abolishing capitalism for an economy run either by “the workers” or the state.

He wrote, “In practice, that means DSA [members advocate] ending private ownership of a wide range of industries whose products are viewed as ‘necessities,’ which they say should not be left to those seeking to turn a profit…DSA also believes that the government should ‘Democraticize’ private businesses — i.e., force owners to give workers control of them — to the greatest extent possible.”

There is a clear disconnect between what socialists like my debate opponent claim about democratic socialism versus what the DSA leadership openly advocates.

...Here is more proof. I read my opponent the following quote:

“We demand profit sharing in big business. We demand a broad extension of care for the aged. We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living. In order to make possible to every capable and industrious citizen the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education. We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents.

The government must undertake the improvement of public health-by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor, by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth.”

A lot of folks with views like this are essentially hankering for a Christianity that has no Christ.

Any believer who hears this kind of talk should ask what kind of witness emanates from his or her own life. “A lot of rules ordained through men” isn’t Christ. “A supreme, gracious Ruler” is Christ. One’s worldview will show.

Excellent observation — that is what a powerless faith will find in meeting this kind of movement.

COMMUNISM AND MODERN LEFTISM ARE NEARLY IDENTICAL:

“impervious to empirical evidence, scientific evidence, sociological evidence,” the Yale professor continued. “It is also an extremely sloppy theology that does not base its observations on human behavior....
...oligarchy becomes the priesthood” and the government becomes a theocracy with “a very active inquisition, with heretics who have to be expunged one way or another.”
...a totalitarian regime becomes totalitarian precisely because it is ideological...organized and systematic lying...
ideological lie, by contrast...seeks to impose a pseudo-reality upon reality. It does not depart from reality so much as [it] completely ignores reality and…it seeks to disrupt our normal access to reality...”

Taylor concluded the discussion by noting contemporary trends disturbingly reminiscent of communist ideocracies. He criticized the “hyper-bureaucratization of life” as well as a “persistence of perfectionism” and a “prevalent culture of activism,” especially on university campuses.

The latter two he described as a kind of fanaticism that is “always certain that the enacting of a certain program will bring an end to societal dysfunction and injustice.” This fanaticism, Taylor claimed, “is not driven primarily by unbridled passion, but rather is the result of an intellectual error, which should recall ideologies like revolutionary socialism” and their disastrous results.

Sad to find that the dialogue has been dragged this low. Then we wonder why we are characterized as trigger happy.

You’re right.

I’ve hit the abuse button on myself for that.

Most of them are NOT communists. Most of them are USEFUL IDIOTS of the communists

Excellent thing to notice. It looks like there is a vacuum that Christ-true faith could fill, but doesn’t fill any more. So communism, advanced socialism, and more fills it.

If we’re lackadaisical about the Holy Spirit, we might more readily pardon those who in desperation opt for unholy spirits that superficially approximate Him.

Let’s look at the statistics. 95% those who have commit political violence are leftists. Ask Steve Scalise.

Just when do we get to fight back??

Ultimately, God is right. I’ve been chased down by God and He has grabbed me by the scruff of the neck. There was no escaping from Him.

I long and ache in heart for an actual faith revolution. The false thing that goes around today calling itself “liberal” (while being as illiberal as literal hell) would then quickly be rebuked and replaced by actual Christian liberality. Even politics would reflect it, but politics would not be the center of it, but rather be on the periphery. Heart, home, and church would be in the center.

One of the “liberal” (illiberal) victories is in getting us to think along the same lines they do.

On education..."...possible to every capable and industrious citizen the attainment of higher education..." if you think for one minute 'they' want smarter people...the answer is NO, they want dumbendown people that they can control. Hence everyone must attend school for the government propaganda they will be taught.

Dumbed down....(simplified so as to be intellectually undemanding and accessible to a wide audience.)
