Got a church story this week.
which, as it turns out, my friend Diane Feinstein, was not with me at the 4pm mass yesterday, which she usually is. But she was up in Wilmington visiting grandchildren, etc.
Anyway, get a seat and note that there are two people at the altar. They have a set of keyboards, all kinds of microphones, a guy with a guitar....an entire mini-band, as it were.
So they introduce and tell us we would be singing out of this booklet, yadaya.
They start playing, REAL LOUD. They wanted us to sing along but first, we didn’t know the damn songs they were singing. And second, no one could hear any of the congregation anyway.
Bear in mind I was in that choir for over ten years so I know the songs. But they were singing from some little blue music book thing, no musical notes, just the words.
At some point they began to sing more normal mass songs and the parishioners were able to join in. I sang with some enthusiasm but when they started waving their arms back and forth I’d had enough.
I am sorry, but that is a protestant thing. I have nothing against protestants and may they clap, wave their arms, cry and shout when singing their songs.
That’s just not the Catholic way, it’s just not.
I don’t know what Father Flowers was thinking, who also bought in a priest from the Penna. diocese and right there that was dumb. Let Penna. keep its priestly perverts.
Turns out he was legally blind and spent ten full minutes telling us how to receive communion from him or he will stop the distribution.
“Hold your hands, palms opened, one on top of the other,” he said, while demonstrating. “Do not walk away, do not move while I put the communion in your hand. If you are receiving in the mouth, open wide cause I am legally blind.”
Father Tom was there but he let the blind guy do all the talking.
At the recessional, Father Tom is waving hands in the air. Some of the congregation raised their arms but a few of them had already walked out in ire.
Very few of us liked any of it.
The blind priest was nice but I was so damn scared of receiving communion from him I had to run to another open minister.
The protestants should shout and sing but Catholics, especially us old and beleaguered Catholics, don’t like it one bit.
And I’m quite sure Father Tom will hear about.
I sent Diane Feinstein a test message cause she missed it all. She hasn’t answered.
