Obama AR-15 gun-ban plan under investigation

It was under the Barack Obama administration that bureaucrats in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tried to ban ammunition for AR-15 rifles, which are among the most commonly used in America.

The move failed when intense resistance developed from majorities in the House and the Senate.

But the details of that campaign have remained hidden over the intervening years, and Washington watchdog Judicial Watch says the secrecy needs to end.

The organization filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the BATF over about 1,900 pages of records regarding the proposed reclassification that would have banned certain types of AR-15 ammunition.

The proposed change in the technical definition would have moved AR-15 into a category of ammunition reserved for “armor-piercing,” which is much more restricted that ordinary ammunition.

“Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit after the agency failed to respond to a May 14, 2018, FOIA request for the 1,900 documents about the Obama administration’s AR-15 ammo ban efforts. The documents include ATF talking points about the ‘Armor Piercing Ammunition Notice of Proposed Rulemaking’ and other records discussing ammunition classification,” Judicial Watch said.

It’s the latest in a three-year effort to get documents from the ATF. The cache of documents was uncovered during separate litigation over the ammunition ban.

imho, Draining the Swamp was a wonderful plan .. but unfortunately it mostly went into hiding just as soon as the election was done

somehow or other, PDJT has been distracted from Draining the Swamp.......and this will, imho, be his worst mistake

the amti-American krap including all the commies, nazis, and islamophiles are still running key bureaus (and undermining PDJT every way they can)......... Snake Department, military, defense, security, intelligence, policy areas need to be reviewed ASAP for major Swamp Draining... imho

a man in NY was just pulled over for traffic violation- police found an ‘assault rifle’ in the vehicle, and he’s now an instant felon for not having registered it with that state-

HUH? The AR-15 is a rifle, not ammunition- and armor piercing ammo is available for most guns-

President George Washington, and he was there and he opined: We have the right to ANY weapon which the government is WILLING to use against us otherwise the 2nd Amendment would be meaningless.

This opinion proves the 2nd Amendment was to protect us from GOVERNMENT should, like to day, try to free itself from the restrictions of our constitution and like the stazi like FBI wages an attempted coup d’etat thus rejecting our votes at the ballot box.

The ONLY way to alter our RTKBA would be via the Amendment process and ANY lessor law is by definition 100% unconstitutional.

“somehow or other, PDJT has been distracted from Draining the Swamp”

I am sure it’s on his list of “to do” items. I think you will have to agree he’s run into intense “headwinds” at every turn he makes. Getting successfully through the Kavanaugh appointment and working at a slavish pace with rallies to get the mid-term elections successfully concluded were “have tos!” He has laid the groundwork for the next two years of his administration. Continuing to have Republican control of both Houses is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY. Without it, the next two years are worthless. If the Republicans “hold” the Senate and House, it will be solely because of President Trump’s ceaseless efforts. Like you, I don’t like the continuation of the DC Swamp, but the fact that for the first time, it’s been exposed is a wonderful revelation. With a GOP Congress, hopefully we will see changes to “civil service regulations” that will allow for the more speedy removal of faithless government employees. Beyond that, together, Trump and the Congress need to go full speed ahead with the remaking of our Judiciary. A way must be found to stop the unwarranted interference by Leftist Federal Judges in Administrative Policy changes that Trump needs. Congress has the power and authority to remove every damned Federal Judge with the exception of the SCOTUS. They need to get on with the task of eliminating the excrement that’s taken refuge on our Federal Bench. And hopefully, we can look forward to a SCOTUS that actually works for what it’s being paid. One thing is certain, we will be able to “test” just who Chief Justice Roberts really is!

Fitton is a good man, does good work, and is unlikely to be intimidated by the thuggish Leftist protestors that are so common these days. Have you seen the guns on that guy? The dude lifts!

I have seen it in numerous places and one of them was in a book I have somewhere that contained letters between Jefferson & Madison.

Other founders had given similar opinions but the concept of not attempting to define what weapons may or may not be developed in the future vs what government is willing to use against us, is just one more example of the brilliance of the Founders.

I’ll see if I can find a source which is more credible than my memory. I know the book is somewhere in the house.

Rktman, at age 78 and a life-long Republican )who served three terms on the local County Republican Central Committee), I am aghast a just how much “wool” had been pulled over my eyes by the GOPE about the truth about what they stood for. It took a once in a lifetime individual, in the person of Donald J. Trump to force open the lid on that box of bull$hit that the GOPE has been selling for the entirety of my life! I always knew about what the RATs were all about, but it took Trump to show us all “the man behind the curtain” at the RNC.

Those muscles are derived from throwing courtroom paperwork around. I mean when he finally gets that 1,900 pages from the BATFE, he will have to bench press them in order to read all of them.

I can't recall for sure - this was about reclassifying the "green tip" ball ammo as AP, correct?

Seems like there was a trial balloon floated on this, back around the time that DOD decided to stop selling surplus once-fired brass, and such (subsequently reversed, I believe).

Can’t win if the Republicans refuse to play a little offense. They do here & there but it’s mostly counterattacks when the Democrats overreach. We’re talking mostly about congressional Republicans.
