Trump: I asked GOP senator to go to his daughter's wedding instead of attend Kavanaugh vote

President Trump revealed Saturday that he had asked Montana Sen. Steve Daines (R) to take time off to attend his daughter's wedding over the weekend, causing him to miss a confirmation vote for Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

The president tweeted Saturday afternoon following Kavanaugh's successful confirmation in the Senate that he advised Daines to skip the vote once Republicans learned that they had the necessary number of votes to prevail.

"I have asked Steve Daines, our great Republican Senator from Montana, to attend his daughter Annie’s wedding rather than coming to today’s vote," Trump wrote on Twitter shortly after the vote took place.

"Steve was ready to do whatever he had to, but we had the necessary number. To the Daines Family, congratulations-have a wonderful day!" he added in the tweet.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 6, 2018 Kavanaugh's nomination passed the full Senate on Saturday by a vote of 50-48, with the lone Republican in opposition, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R), voting "present" to honor her colleague Daines's support of the nominee.

Daines was the only senator to skip the final vote on Kavanaugh's nomination, which followed weeks of bitter partisan fighting in the Senate.

The judge's confirmation process was fraught with controversy after three women came forward to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault shortly after his hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded. After a week-long FBI investigation into the claims, Democrats were unable to convince key swing-vote senators such as Maine's Sen. Susan Collins (R) to oppose the nomination.

Trump maintained support for his embattled nominee amid the accusations and subsequent FBI investigation, which Democrats criticized for being too narrow in scope.

He knew he had enough votes, and he now has the permanent goodwill of that Senator.

>>>As much as it pains me to say it, that was a classy move by the old broad<<<

It would have been classier and smarter if she simply Voted Yes. She bought into the Lies and the Slander of fine Man.

She can rot in Hell for all I care.

He voted to confirm. I heard it myself since he’s wobbly at times.

He does not side with the GOP nine times out of ten. Maybe 4 times out of ten.

he versus they....
singular versus plural...

HIS constituents are the THEY, who side with the president 9/10 of the time. Hence he will switch..

hope that makes better sense to you.

Then the vote would be held open until Daines could come in.

My Ross Perot wedding disruption thoughts were soundly put to rest today. Thanks Mr. President.

I was one of the people not too happy about Daines decision, but if Trump told him to, I can’t blame him for going.

The Senate approved. That’s what really matters.

That ought to put a lot of uppity Freepers in their places.

Murkowski then decides to Vote NO as well. Could've made it 49-50.

Didn't happen did it?

The President has done thousands of these kinds of deals and was well informed.

I posted at the beginning of this that Daines attending his daughter wedding was a good sign, that Mitch already knew the outcome would be favorable.

Our President is classy and gracious, except when it's more appropriate to light it up a little.

This particular statement is a wonderful example of sticking the knife into the Demagogic Party and its astroturf rioters, twisting it a little, pulling it out, wiping the blade off on their best pants, and leaving the weapon at the scene, loaded with his prints.

I've got a heterosexual crush on him. Not on the Nork dictator though.
