Love Alice.

Alice and Norton were the stars of that show. I've read that Gleason saw his main role as a writer and producer rather than an actor.

> And his pension will now go up considerably. <

That depends on how close he is to retirement. Most public pension system base your pension on how much you’ve made in the last 3 or 5 years.

Oh, and here’s a neat trick. I’m not saying it happened here, but...let’s say you and I are two public workers responsible for some project. I work 8 to 4. You’ve got 4 to midnight. I’m a year away from retirement.

So I say to you, “Hey, pal. Please start calling off sick. I’ll take the overtime, which will boost my pension. And in the meantime I’ll pay you for having to use up your sick days.”

> Don’t mess with the Stationary Engineers Union. <

You’ve got that right. I once worked security for a university. One day the stationary engineers went out on strike. But before they walked out, they sabotaged most of the heavy equipment in the buildings. No air conditioning, no hot water, dead electrical outlets, etc.

The strike was settled quickly.

And some municipalities do not include overtime wages in pension calculations.

He had quite the work ethic and all things considered, it’s reasonable.

DEP is a politicized, deep Leftist, swamp department. Ideologues cover for each other, real union ethos. A major question is whether he worked all those hours. It's possible, but 6 12-hour days per week plus another 6 hours on Sundays all year--that's a lot of hours, and would need to be documented and explained.

The manager should be asking, "Was this the most efficient way to do what you did?"

As the techniques of modern life get more and more complex and bigger and bigger the more you see these critical points of operations develop and the easier it is for a unified union to extort high wages.

One of the major supports of the Chicago Machine is its alliance with the unions. It pays them off with higher wages and pensions. They electioneer for it. Providing muscle to enforce Machine demands is another service. A Protection Racket.

I read an article in a SCUBA magazine years ago about the NYC sewer system diver. Don’t know what he makes, but it wouldn’t be enough.

Ralph: “Alice, you JUST got to give me ten bucks so I can go to the party as “The Man From Space!’’

Alice: “ I’ll tell ya what I’ll do Ralph. I’ll give ya five dollars and you can go as “Billy The Kid’’.

Very funny. They don’t make them like that anymore.

I once looked up the salaries of bus drivers and sewer workers. Back then in the 1950s and still today, sewer workers earn at least twice more than bus drivers. So thats why norton was able to afford a tv set, a telephone, nicer furniture, etc.

LOL! And you can see why, can’t you? I mean, Ralph once ran over the host of that tv show he was on.

Sorry, no. The greatest was Jackie Gleason. Followed by Meadows and Carney.
