I understand PoconoPundit that you appreciate JP’s insight in other instances and his ability to out-think the left.
I think, á la Gingrich, some very intelligent academics can go down a path that leads them to make patently stupid suggestions from time to time.
I also think that those people need somewhat forcible input to ground them at those times and the rest of us need to remember that the reasoning and conclusions these guys make are useful, interesting but need reality testing.
Yes!
A little while later, perhaps after thinking about this for two seconds, he said:
The skeptical side of me suspects that he immediately started getting negative feedback about his tweet and therefore quickly tried to walk it back. But actually i'm not sure his follow up response was any better, other than admitting that it is a "very complex" situation.
Im not certain that is the right move. Its very complex. But he would have his name cleared, and a figure who might be less divisive might be put forward.
On second thought this might even be worse than his initial tweet. How exactly would it clear Kavanaugh's name? The left would spin it that he stepped down because of a guilty conscious. However they would spin it, they would certainly be dancing in the streets and view it as a great victory for the Democrats and as a confirmation that resorting to the dirtiest of dirty politics worked.
As for putting forth a less divisive figure, hell, when Kavanaugh was named he looked like the most mild-mannered and least divisive person that Trump could have chosen from his list. And Peterson thinks the left would suddenly learn civility before the next nominee rolls into town? That the process would be less divisive? Forgive me for laughing, but I have some serious doubts about that. My suspicion is that the left would feel that their tactics were vindicated and would try their best to make Mother Theresa look like Cruella de Vil if she were still alive and were nominated to replace Kavanaugh.
But even as a second thought it is lacking in rigor.
Why would stepping down clear him? BK was already a very mainstream candidate. Where would a less divisive candidate be found that the Left would not destroy in turn?
I’m not defending Dr. Peterson’s fuzzy thinking on this topic. But, although I’ve read him, listened to him, and like him, I’ve never thought he was infallible, or agreed with everything he says.
But even here, when he says something that, to me, is obviously wrong, he entertains different viewpoints and self-doubt.
And I heard Adams' recorded commentary this morning on Peterson's statement. Adams flat out says "I can't see any good reason" for Peterson's weird remark — though Adams is holding his judgement.
Peterson's a stream of consciousness guy. He can lecture and debate like no tomorrow. And yet, when I tried to read his book (12 Rules), I couldn't even finish a page of it because his explanations are hopelessly tangled and not clear.
So it's like you have to go to his lectures to discover what he actually says in his book!
So maybe this is what you and Gingrich are talking about. I refer to H. L. Mencken's remarks in his essay Vox Populi:
Instead of using the qualifier just say he was wrong
I agree, and before seeing your comment, I made the same remark about his books.

LOL - funny on so many levels...
Very apt : )
I was putting Gingrich in the same category as Peterson. He comes out with some whoppers in amongst his generally excellent commentaries.
Exactly. (another instance where we sorely need a like button)
I may have been too harsh as i still like Peterson and think he’s trying his best to fight the good fight. Just mostly disappointed with him attempting to wave this away as nothing but a thought experiment rather than simply admitting it was an ill-considered tweet. But hey we all have our bad moments and i know he must feel under the gun, what with so many people looking for any opening in order to take him down. So i’ll give him a pass here and wish him well moving forward.
Not sure I get that. Peterson’s instruction is still sound.
Jordan Peterson thinks out loud on many occasions; and the leftists hate him even more than they hate Trump. I’ll give Peterson some slack. I also assume he will announce a rethinking of a 2:00 a.m tweet when he was likely very fatigued.
There isn't any way that Kavanaugh could "have his named cleared" by stepping down from the Supreme Court. It's a moronic idea..
No, it's either that, or Peterson is just uninformed and stupid. Choose one.
I don't think he is generally stupid based on numerous talks and debates he has had with leftists.
Here is one of my favorites. It's about 30 minutes, but entertaining.
One of the best things about Jordan Peterson is that he is unafraid to admit when he has been wrong.
Isn’t it easier to just throw Justice Kavanaugh down a Well?
If he downs he is Innocent, if he survives, burn him at the Stake.
