FULL TITLE: Nikki Haley was facing a formal complaint over ethics after series of private jet flights funded by businessmen from her native South Carolina.
UN ambassador Nikki Haley, who stunned Washington with her surprise announcement she is resigning her post, was facing an ethics complaint over her acceptance of private travel between South Carolina and Washington, D.C.
Haley had disclosed the flights on her government form for 2017. But the issue of improper private jet uses has dogged multiple administration officials, and led to the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed the complaint against Haley, who has earned high marks for navigating global affairs and the challenges of the Trump administration, on Monday.
The complaint noted she accepted flights from three separate businessmen from her home state of South Carolina on luxury aircraft between the state and Washington, D.C. She was accompanied by her husband on the flights.
Haley claimed exceptions due to personal relationships with the jet owners.
Federal ethics regulations prohibit employees from soliciting or accepting gifts given because of the employee’s official position. They also direct employees to consider declining otherwise permissible gifts if they believe a reasonable person would question their integrity or impartiality as a result of accepting the gifts,' according to the letter from CREW seeking an Office of Inspector General probe.
'Ambassador Haley asserted that each flight qualified for an exception to the rules for gifts based on personal relationships with the donors,' according to the letter. 'It is not clear, however, that the personal relationship exception applied to these gifts.'

Flying commercial always sucks when there is a general or military aviation alternative. For high profile elected or appointed officials, general aviation should be encouraged within reason. Cabinet level people should have official business flights provided to them by the military or private contractors. Those Reserve pilots need all the seat time they can get.
Guilt is not required. Innuendo will do.
Any normal person can be pretty much destroyed by an accusation.
One of my employees got into it with an inlaw and they claimed to CPS that he and his wife were guilty of child abuse. Simply not true at all but it took them weeks to get their children back after CPS came in the night with police and took them because they were “guilty” of suspicion.
Same thing can go for alleged tax cheats reported under the whistleblower rules.
Lots of people have lost lots of their lives, time and money defending against false witness or being “guilty” of suspicion of X.
CREW is a leftist outfit and Nikki Haley disclosed the flights herself.

The charges are bullshit. “She MAY not have qualified for an exemption” means they don’t know
