I believe it’s harder to join up later if you don’t do it now, possibly because you won’t have been paying your premiums all those years.

A hip-replacement operation was $55,000, medical and hospital, about 8 years ago. Probably more now. (NYC)

Only if you’re on the wife’s plan. When I was still working, my husband was on Medicare only.

You surely don’t get the same benefits as Plan F. That covers absolutely everything that Medicare itself doesn’t cover (except for minor exceptions: eyeglass exams, dental, more than one general exam a year, etc.).

Go to the Social Security office and talk with them. Medicare + supplemental was a better/cheaper deal for me than work-provided benefits. My work paid for my Medicare B/ supplemental/Part D as long as I worked.

Our town used to have only one doctor who took Medicare (large number of well insured retirees). But you’re right about the decrease in services paid for. And you can blame it all on obamacare. One of the things it did, was put obamacare decreases that get worse every year, into the cma Medicare system. Thanks Obama!

Seven weeks ago my wife (62) wasn’t expecting to have to use the hospitalization provisions of MedicAID. She’s barely ever been sick in the 30 years I’ve known her. Turns out she did have to —the hospice coverage also — and now she’s dead.

Thank you. Extremely aggressive metastasized breast cancer. Four grandkids here with me — they are doing quite well, fortunately. Me not so good to tell you the truth.

It looks like the increase is only a dollar fifty? Only the lowest earners may not get that much of an increase in their social security.

Nope, looks like everyone should get at least that much, 2.8% of $54 is a dollar fifty.

That’s good to know, especially since you can’t change your decision later.

Congratulations! We made our Escape 3 years ago and have never been happier. Are you going to a conservative state?

It will take time——and the kids presence will help.

My prayers are with you.

I was looking through youtube because my sister will be signing up in a few months. He seemed to have the best presentation and knowledge of the subject matter. He’s a broker, which he tells you up front.

why?....you don’t think you’ll ever get sick?

My wife and I have never had flu shots. We eat healthy. We trust the Lord. He has been faithful.

See post 23. For us, acquiring health insurance would be an act of a lack of faith.

Yes. It’s a math thing. It’s why the day I turn 66 is the day I start collecting SS. (I can still work without it impacting it at all).

All kinds of scenarios where you or the Mrs could get sucked into a vortex. Suppose she goes to the ER for cough and fever and she has a mild pneumonia. The doctors anticipate a short stay so she goes in. Then she takes a turn for the worse, needing oxygen, IV fluids, respiratory therapy, etc.

Would she leave the hospital as she was getting sicker? Otherwise, you could be looking at tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in hospital bills.

If money is an issue, there are medicare advantage plans with zero premiums and reasonable copays.
