“Suppose we get hit by a ten mile meteor?”

There would likely be a copay for treatment:)

Medicare Advantage plans are not Medicare. Notice that they are using the word “Medicare” as an adjective, not a noun.

I would be very careful that your hospitalization is fully covered. That is the bank breaker. Don’t worry about premiums. Make sure major operations are fully covered.

Medicare (the real McCoy) plus Plan F is our best insurance. The Medicare Advantage plans should be called the Las Vegas Plans. Advantage to the insurance companies, maybe—otherwise they wouldn’t exist.

I was presenting the MA as an alternative to medicare supplement plans if cost was a factor in the OP’s decision to forego medicare.

I have Plan G, which is exactly the same as Plan F, except the deductible ($183) isn’t covered covered with G.

You should consider switching to Plan G. I’ll bet you’re paying more in Plan F premiums vs Plan G premiums plus the deductible. Also, Plan F will sunset after 2019, leaving the insurance pool older and more costly. That may raise the premiums more than Plan G.

WTF. Are you joking? Are you on FreeRepublic or AARP?

I don’t know about you but I pay a percentage of my income in tax For Medicare. Which means somebody that makes this much is I do pays half as much as I do and they get the same coverage. I am sick and tired of the rich people are screwing the poor people. Let’s take Social Security for example I will get 20% more then somebody that pays in 1/3 as much is I do fuck that. Same with Medicare it’s a scam also. I’m too rich to qualify for anything except extra payments apparently.

If you were joking my apologies.

Omgoodness. She went thru a whole lot. I recently had a bone marrow transplant for acute myeloid leukemia at this point, I probably have about a million $ of treatment. Something not even as serious can bankrupt a person. There was no time either. The day of diagnosis, I was hospitalized for a month for the first treatment. It’s not cheap. Can’t imagine what would have happened without my insurance. Well, actually I do - I wouldn’t be here because there’d be no transplant.

The red flag here is ‘rich’ and ‘poor’. Every time.

Smh. What the hell is rich? What is poor? Too basic of terms. They need to explain income amounts at least please. Because this rich vs poor talk tells me who I’m speaking with.

Where I live some of the “in demand” docs either don’t take it or will charge an additional annual fee...I am not on medicare, but my neighbor said she wanted to go to my doc and he wanted $1200/year for her (she was on Medicare). That was a number of years ago...I am sure it is more now...

During the Obamacare debates, Hannity had numerous interviews w/a doc out of Wichita KS City with a plan...It is called Atlas MD, a health cooperative that offered an excellent low-cost alternative..

I really wish our elected “representatives” would look at innovative alternatives!

Thanks for the additional information.

Medicare Advantage plans are not substitutes for Medigap. They are complete plans that supposedly cover the needs that Medicare covers. Medigap plans, like Plan F, are to fill in the things that Medicare doesn’t cover. I think you know this, you just didn’t present it clearly.

No, it wasn’t snark. It was confusing to me. I’m interested in everyone getting the best plan.

I watched that video and I wish he had gone into the little differences, no matter how small, between G and F, aside from the lower premium-versus-deductible math.

Looks like the main thing, besides the deductible/premium math, is whether you have a condition that prevents you from switching. So you have to find out about that individually? There’s no list?

It’s free if you don’t get treatment.

BTW, they gave the hospital strict instructions NOT to give certain lifesaving treatments. They did anyway and she ended up with a six figure bill. It was eventually mostly forgiven.

We have a friend who had stage four breast cancer. She’s been cancer free now for seven years. No treatment. Well, except for the Gerson method.

My friend from high school had cancer and he did do Chemo. It wiped it out, but he needed a second round. BEfore the second round they did a test to see how he was progressing. He was done. He didn’t need a second round. The doctor was very excited and asked him if he had changed anything. He said, “Yes, I’ve been taking medical marijuana.” The doctor got physically angry.

My wife and I rarely do restaurants and keep ourselves healthy - and we trust the great healer. The same one the apostle Paul used when he was bitten by the snake.

And here is how they get everyone sniping on each other vs. the root cause\elephant in the room.

Squabbles of ‘rich’ v ‘poor’, % of theft, % of ‘coverage’

Hell, I read nearly EVERY post giving help/advice...Not a ONE pointing out it shouldn’t even EXIST. MANDATED as primary?? FINES is not used??

F*, FR has *really* fallen on quality since (R) took the reigns.
