Chinese navy has deployed upgraded H-6 bombers that carry additional anti-ship missiles
Great Power War ^ | 10/12/18 | Jon E. Dougherty

As China’s naval aviation capabilities advance, objectives are changing as well. No longer just a defense force, the upgraded H-6J’s indicate that Beijing wants its naval bomber force to project power as well. These new designs, with their added payload capability, are designed to do just that.

These jets are not stealthy, however, which makes them more easily targetable than U.S. bombers. That said, they may not have to be if they fly within established air defense zones when launching their payloads at allied ships.

Good point.

I wonder if Iraq ever got its planes back from Iran?

I bet storage fees were in the billions! (a little s/)

.……….I think China “MAY” someday be able to take on the US, not to mention the US and it’s West Pac allies, but for now it’s kinda like a high school kid bragging about getting into the ring with Mike Tyson...…………….(in his prime).

Don’t forget the 160 rounds can’t be used because the gun doesn’t work and won’t be working until ~2020 at the earliest.

If a J-35 is employed to use its gun, working or not, the fight is already over.

Remember, the F-35 is also supposed to be able to use its gun for close air support of infantry. No gun, no capability.

Also, given how jammers are advancing, it is conceivable that future ACM may end up resulting in a close range knife fight with guns.

Also, pointing out that this is the first fighter that’s supposed to have a gun that we’ve deployed without one that worked. And the list of things wrong with the F-35 keeps getting longer - this isn’t like anything in the past save the F-111.

The ones we don’t have because we didn’t replace the F-14s? The Super Hornet is *very* short legged and does not possess super long range BVR missiles.

This is the bomber version of the historic Chicom practice of pimping-out MiG-21 clones as “new fighter designs.”

I actually prefer to hear from the pilots.

"To me, a compelling argument for how well the F-35 works is evident by what we´re able to do in training. Three weeks back I was part of a four-ship of F-35s. Our mission was to overcome an advanced airborne threat, while locating and destroying an equally advanced surface based air defense system. After neutralizing these threats, we were able to destroy four additional targets. All this prior to receiving the Block 3F capabilities. Suffice to say that this mission would have been close to suicide with a four-ship of F-16s alone!"

The F35 will do what it was intended to do, but probably not in isolation, and certainly not perfectly all at once.

And in 2017 it was discovered that under the Obama administration any pilot criticizing the F-35 was severely disciplined. More has been coming out about the F-35 being a pile since.

Like in most things - its the thought that counts ... definitely will terrify the J-20 on the 35s tail ...

Conflicting reports. It finished its operational testing for the Marine Corps and they accepted and deployed the first composite squadron with the 31st MEU (which I served with). 31st is the closest to China, based out of Okinawa. So apparently they think it can do the job.

The only thing I'm hearing is a shortage of parts, and that's not an airframe issue. I don't know what the solution is for the wing configuration, but it was mentioned in the article I sent, that the engineers are aware of it.

For better or worse, I think the F35 is going to surprise a lot of people.
