Cruz says he's willing to participate in debate with O'Rourke on CNN

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Friday that he is now willing to debate Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) on CNN, the Associated Press reported.

O'Rourke was previously scheduled to appear solo in a townhall in McAllen, Texas, on Oct. 18. Cruz had initially accepted CNN's invitation to join O'Rourke, but later declined earlier this week.

"Sen. Ted Cruz's campaign initially accepted CNN's invitation to participate" but has since declined, CNN said in an announcement.

"To be clear, the Cruz campaign proposed that @CNN host one of the Cruz-O’Rourke debates. The O’Rourke campaign declined. @CNN subsequently offered back to back town halls, in which we are unable to participate," Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, wrote in a tweet.

Cruz was critical of the network earlier this year after one of CNNs graphics accused him of being "afraid" to appear on the network by attending a town hall about school shootings following the February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Cruz and O'Rourke are locked in a tight Senate race in deep-red Texas, with the Republican incumbent leading by 6 points in the RealClearPolitics polling index. A Quinnipiac University poll released early Thursday showed Cruz with a 9-point lead over O'Rourke.

O’Rourke, on Friday, announced that his campaign had raised more than $38 million in the third quarter of this year, a haul that would rival that of a strong presidential campaign. O'Rourke's victory in the Texas Senate race is seen as one of a few ways in which Democrats could secure control of the upper chamber. The party needs to flip two seats to have a majority in the Senate.

The two are set to debate on Tuesday in San Antonio.

Ted should want on stage, flip off the CNN moderator(s), and walk off.

Which is why taking the risk of a CNN ambush makes no sense. CNN is a Democratic Party propaganda organ.

"I sure hope there is a method to Ted’s on-again/off-again game."

Sounds like that was fake news. From the article:

"To be clear, the Cruz campaign proposed that @CNN host one of the Cruz-O’Rourke debates. The O’Rourke campaign declined. @CNN subsequently offered back to back town halls, in which we are unable to participate," Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, wrote in a tweet.
O’Rourke is the one avoiding a debate.

Exactly. Why bother.

The only way Beto has a chance is with illegal illegal votes.

This race is over. I predict Cruz by 15 points. Real Clear Politics and Quinnapac gave Hillary Clinton an assured win. Unless they have changed their polling parameters this is all all bravo sierra. This race is over!

>>>I sure hope there is a method to Ted’s on-again/off-again game<<<

It isn’t an on-again/off-again game.

CNN wanted to have a Townhall Event, not a Debate. A Townhall full of Beto Supporters no doubt.

Cruz insisted on a Debate. That way he only has to deal with three CNN Liberals and one Commie on the Stage with him asking the questions, not a room full of Leftists attacking him for 90 Minutes.

"That is not a tight race. That is like 500,000 voters. It is still sad to me that there are some many socialist wannabes in Texas. The usual suspects. Blacks, Former Mexicans, and Austin. "

Oddly legal Mexicans in Texas are more Republican than Democrat. Their culture is conservative.

Austin is nothing but Berkley West. It was once the greatest little city ever. It sadly is no longer that.

Ever look at at Red versus Blue Map in Texas? Everything from El Paso to
Brownsville is blue. I’m not buying the rhetoric. At best they are 70-30 blue, unlike black folks who are 90-10.
