A multi-million-pound fighter jet exploded and another was damaged when a mechanic accidentally opened fire from a third plane during maintenance.
The F-16 Falcon jet, worth around $19million (£15million), was destroyed in the blaze as it was parked at a military base in Belgium and the second plane sitting next to it suffered fire damage from the on-board Gatling cannon.
Two technicians working on the Belgian Air Force stealth planes were said to have been injured in the incident at the Florennes air base, 60 miles south of Brussels, on Thursday afternoon.

It’ll buff out.
LOL! I’ve heard that the f-14 was designed around the phoenix missile. The F-15 was designed around its advanced radar, and the F-16 was designed around its ejection seat.
I hope this is the last tribute to John McCain I read about.
They are supposed to have safety interlocks and RBF flags to prevent this.
And why did an aircraft have live munitions loaded while undergoing maintenance?
Was going to ask was his ghost sighted?
“stealth planes”
F-16 are “stealth planes” according to retarded journalists.
I recently read a book written by a British WWII Naval Aviator.
He was doing a walk around inspection of his aircraft before takeoff and noticed his fuel filler cap was missing.
He called the mechanic over, showed him the problem, then marched the mechanic to the stockade.

In the same way hiLIARy clinton is a ninja.
I would so like to read an article about firearms written by this author.
It would be LOL.
Bad day at the office
“And why did an aircraft have live munitions loaded while undergoing maintenance?”
Is “live” redundant?
You see if this was the NAVY, the Squadron Commander would ask the Maintenance Chief this question: Hey Chief, you think if we has some tape, glue and a few hours, we could have this up and flying tomorrow?”
The F-16 always has a certain amount of ammo on board. It has something to do with balance. I’m an F-16 wife and mother.
“A multi-million-pound fighter jet exploded and another was damaged when a mechanic accidentally opened fire from a third plane during maintenance.”
I was thinking “big plane.”
Don't know what the maintenance guy did.
Not redundant. F-16s can carry either life (explosive) rounds or training rounds (non-explosive slugs). Also they can have AAM’s with inert warheads so as to have pilots train with the aircraft carrying a combat weight load, without having the danger of live (fully functional) ammunition and missiles.
After the planes were loaded, the maintenance chief that was with the group during the training to the loading, gave Doolittle an evaluation form. Needless to say, Doolittle wasn't happy.
