ST. LOUIS Joan Barry has been a member of the Missouri Democratic Party for 53 years. As a state legislator, she voted regularly for workers rights, health care, and programs for the poor.
So when the party began writing a new platform after its crushing losses in 2016, Ms. Barry, a member of its state committee, did not think it was too much to ask for a plank that welcomed people like her Democrats who oppose abortion.
At first the party agreed and added it. Missouris Democratic senator, Claire McCaskill, even called Ms. Barry to praise her.
But within days, Ms. Barry began receiving angry emails and Facebook messages. People called her a dinosaur, a has-been and worse. Her children started to worry.

Tolerant and Inclusive — as long as you toe the party line.
The hive mentality prevents any but official party thought.....................kinda like the Borg..............
Worshipping Moloch is the party platform.
Sometimes you get exactly what you wanted but will regret it.
The farther Left you go, the more you hear them argue about “purity”. You’ve got to fall in step or you’re excluded. Hive mind.
Its hard to believe that an experienced democrat politician did not realize that abortion is the cornerstone of the democrat party. This sounds like its just a strategic move to try and bleed off a few conservative votes.
Don’t allow you opposition to select and define the terms.
It is pro-life vs pro Baby Killer
They are trying the old “juicy beef steak” vs “bloody dead cow” word picture games.
The same could be said about us here. That’s the problem with American politics at the moment. To stay in power, the people IN power have chosen to drive a wedge between the electorate which pushes everyone either left or right. There are no centrists anymore. Think about it, we can Centrists “Rinos” - I don’t know what the Dems call them.
But I wonder where people like JFK, IKE and Truman would fall in today’s political spectrum.
And there you have it. The party of Death.
Used to see it all of the time lurking at DUmmieland years ago. A person would introduce themselves to the board as a Christian or second amendment supporting Democrat. They never lasted long. Our worst flame wars here ever could not even come close to the cruelty the regular DUmmies dished out on those idealists until they were ran off.
Yes. If I close my eyes, I can almost hear “Panzerlied” when the Antifafa folk start chanting...
Winning.
Certainly does not stop the Catholic Church from cozying up to Democrats.
“My daughter called me and said, Mom, your life is in danger, Ms. Barry, 77, said in her home in suburban St. Louis. Youd better get some mace.”
Mace ? That’s seasoning. I don’t get it.
But I do understand what I hope this woman now sees. Democrats are dangerous, vile and will cause you grievous harm if you disagree with them.
I also hope that she will not only stay anti-abortion, but understand why we arm ourselves against this scourge.
I know quite a few working-class, Catholic whites here in the Northeast who still want to identify with the Democrat Party. Most are just conflicted or don’t think about it deeply.
Those who have given it any thought realize the Harry Truman Democrat Party died 30 years ago.
The Democrats/Leftist’s religion is the State, hence there is no separation of Church and State for them and we all become subjects of their godless freefall religion.
I would say she is an old school Democrat (she is 77) and still in denial about what her party is. As I said, I see her kind in my own family. The Democrats mistake is that they have made abortion a cornerstone and refuse to make any accommodation to pro-life views. This does cost them votes, especially in places like St Louis where there a large number of progressive minded Catholics.
Of course. It’s possible to be anything. I have a good friend who is gay. He’s also pro small government, pro 1st Amendment, for personal freedoms, strong on defense and borders. His whole life doesn’t have to be about his sexual orientation. There are no “perfect” voters or candidates.
I disagree. Sure, we have flame wars here. But not about identity politics.
Personally, I think homosexuals are mentally ill and I try to stay away from them. But I would (figuratively) embrace any Homosexuals For Trump cadre that showed up. I would stand with them. Likewise, I think the ghetto culture is very self-destructive. But any Blacks who want to vote for lower taxes or RKBA is my brother. I could go on and on.
I don't chase anyone. I don't persecute anyone. I don't reject anyone. But I do reject ideas if I think they are bad ideas.
The Democrats basically want to kill anyone who disagrees with them. That's why they are different from us. That's why they are dangerous.
