Poll: Democrat Joe Manchin Leads by Four in West Virginia Senate Race
Breitbart ^ | 16 October 2018 | Sean Moran

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) leads West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey by a small margin, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Sen. Manchin leads Morrisey by four points—49 to 45 percent—in the heated West Virginia race. Thirty-six percent of West Virginia voters said they will “definitely” vote for Manchin, 11 percent will probably vote for the West Virginia Democrat, and two percent are leaning towards voting for him.

In contrast, 36 percent said they will definitely vote for Morrisey, eight percent will probably vote for the AG, and one percent lean towards voting for the West Virginia Republican. Three percent of West Virginia voters remain undecided.

An overwhelming number of West Virginia voters support President Donald Trump, and Manchin faces a tough re-election campaign in a state Trump won by more than 42 points in the 2016 presidential election.

Sixty-two percent of West Virginians approve of Trump’s job performance. Among those voters, 55 percent strongly approve of the president, and eight percent somewhat approve of him. Only 35 percent disapprove of Trump’s job performance, with four percent somewhat disapproving, and 30 percent strongly approving.

This newest poll shows a tight race between Manchin and Morrisey. A survey released last week found that Manchin and Morrisey have struck a virtual dead heat. The poll showed that Manchin’s favorability hit a new low: 45 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Manchin, while 50 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of the incumbent Democrat.

Another poll from Morning Consult found that Manchin was one of the top ten least popular senators.

Morrisey has attacked Manchin for portraying himself as a conservative lawmaker in West Virginia and then cozying up with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other leftist politicians in Washington, DC.

A democratic Senator who is a Former 2 time governor who won the state with nearly 70% of the vote, and who had a favorability rating while governor in the high 60s throughout most of his Terms.

He’s served in Office in some capacity in WV since 1982, and ONLY lost 1 election in his entire career.

This “Oh he’s a democrat, how can WV be so stupid” shows frankly how ignorant you are, not West Virginians. Manchin has served his state and its people well, and been rewarded repeatedly for it. Do I like all his stands? Nope.. but to try to claim West Virginians are Stupid for supporting someone who has consistently shown he has earned their support is just ignorant ranting from someone who lives outside their great state and thinks they know better than them how to vote.

I don’t like Manchin, but I can tell you he is EASILY 100 times the politician the GOP have put up against him. And if this race was against a backdrop of anything other than the national tide of the Dems insanity of the last 20 years of so, Manchin would cake walk to a 20 point win. Morrissey is a sclub, just because he’s got an R beside his name doesn’t mean he’s a great candidate or a great politician.

Manchin’s by far the strongest D in the red states this fall. It’s up to the people of WV to decide if they want to continue to support him or not. His overall track record has been a damned good one, even if you or I or others don’t particularly agree with every vote he’s cast or thing he’s done. If he was just an empty suited shrill left wing nutter WV would have tossed him aside long ago.

He’s capable, he’s smart, and he knows his state and has served his constituents, which is is exactly WHY he’s got a 26 year pedigree and been rewarded for it. If it wasn’t for the fact he has a D beside his name, WV wouldn’t even be in play at all, but that has NOTHING to do with Manchin personally, but everything to do with where the D party has gone. Manchin is nearly a man without a country territory, but not because of his failure to do his job and do it well, but because the party he is part of has marched itself so far left, that its left the people of WV behind. WV hasn’t move right, as much as the Dems have moved left. Manchin would fit in far better in most GOP settings than in Democrat ones more often than not.

I think personally the tide is running against him, but as I have said, if there is a red state D who could survive, Manchin is the most likely.

Whichever way it goes, however, as much as I want to see another GOP seat in the Senate, and I believe the GOP better stands for the values of WV a the national level than the Democrat party does... If Manchin manages to win, it will be because he has earned it, and I respect the people of WV enough to not call them idiots for voting how they do.

I don’t have your insights and/or friendships, but I do agree that Manchin pictures himself as the second coming of Slick.

I see this election ending same as you. Shame the WV GOP doesn’t have a stronger campaign and/or candidate.

Yep, I’m from WV. Everything changed here when Gore ran for president. Before that we were the bluest of blue states. We’ve been red since 2000. The Republican party s strong in WV now.

The problem in the Senate race is Morrissey is such an awful candidate. If you saw any of the commercials either for or against him you would understand. I have absolutely no clue how this race is going to go. President Trump’s popularity in WV should be enough to help Morrissey pull out a win. But Manchin always runs as a conservative, so he might eek out a win. I’d love to see Trump make another campaign stop here to help Morrissey.

See 61, I am tired of these idiots claiming folks are “stupid” if they don’t do what they think they should... especially when they don’t live, work or play anywhere near the folks they are belittling....

I am happy to bash a stuffed suit regardless of where they are from, but Manchin is a damned good politician.. and Morrissey is sadly a schlub... which is why he is polling where he is...

I’d love to see that set go Red, for the national implications, but I completely understand how Manchin could win, and why. And I will respect the WV voters regardless. Unlike a lot of politicians, Manchin has chops, and if he does lose at the end of the day it will be due to national forces he has no control over. IF the election were on merit purely, even though he’s a D, he’d be 20 points ahead in the polls.

Me too, which is why I presented such a pugnacious attitude on this thread. Sometimes the apparatchicks just get to me.....and I shouldn't let them.

I do take a little issue with you on how well Manchin has served WV over the last 8 years. I don’t see that he did any real “pushing back” during the Zero administration. He basically was a “well behaved pet conservative Rat” during the those years. Toward the end of that time period he went into 2016 thinking he had a shot at being Hellary’s VP, Commerce or Energy secretary. To me he was just selling WV out for his own personal ambitions. Let’s not forget his $700K yacht in the Potomac basin! The height of hypocrisy!

He voted for K so he could vote against the next one. K already had 50 votes anyway.

What a crock.....Joe Manchin did nothing to keep the rats from devastating WV and has not made one vote since that matters. If he gave a rats ass for WV he would have resigned and stood for election as a republican which he would have surly won. He voted against tax cuts and most everything Trump has championed. He votes against the democrats when Pelosi tells him it's OK and his vote never makes the difference. Damn right ..if you from WV and still voting for this liberal fraud it's pretty damn stupid. Everything you wrote could be said about Bill Clinton.

Been working our butts off trying to clean up around here, but brainless jerks like you who’d rather defecate on an ally keep getting in the way.

If you are so damned stupid you think Jim, me, and other California FReepers are responsible for California’s political condition then I’m confused as to how you are mingling amongst a lot of more classy people than yourself.

Without his vote, there would have been no cloture. You need at least 51 votes for cloture, and after the forever cursed Murkowski decided to vote against cloture, it would have been over.

I hear you. These needleheads here often criticize us in Arizona for electing Republicans. Then an election year comes and they tell us to elect the exact same kind of Republicans, because the world is now at stake.

Not when they are at 49%, though. Undecideds usually break for the challenger heavily, but they could break 10-1 for the Republican in this case and Manchin still wins if he is truly at 49% now.

Ads need to be run pointing out that while many like Joe, he is a vote for Chuck Schumer and if Chuck Schumer becomes majority leader, it doesn’t matter where Joe claims to stand, it won’t be allowed to even be brought to a vote.

?

Manchin needs to go too. Make sure you mountaineers don’t get seduced by his Kavanaugh vote.

Schumer controls him. If they REALLY need his vote - he’s there. Otherwise they let him pretend to be a real American.

Sorry if I typed Pelosi instead of Schumer. Two faces of the same coin.

The Kavanaugh vote has little if anything to do with this election. The problem is the weak candidate and campaign of the WV GOP.

Yes yes you are right, you don’t live in WV, but Manchin got 64%of the Vote, in the same election the state went For George Bush because he did nothing for his state. Then re-elected him th with nearly 70% of the vote an election where they voted for McCain for the president. Thebsent hom to the Senate with over 60% of the vote in the same election they went for Romney for the White House. Yet the people of WV did all of that, just because they are stupid and reward people they feel are not providing them anything positive, because cannot they are all just toothless hicks who are too stupid to look after their own self interests.

You really should be over at DU, with sheer condiscending argument you keep trying to press. No difference in the nonsense you are exposing and the trump voters are just dumb hicks.

But, yes this man does and did nothing for his state because, you, who never likely set foot in WV can pontificate about some votes you didn’t like. What you don’t know about WV, her people, and her politics clearly could fill tomes.

A good rule of thumb is when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging, yet you seem bound and determined to dig your hole all the way to China.

“He votes against the Democrats when Pelosi tells him”

Your not only showing your ignorance about the people owls West Virginia, but showing your general ignorance of your own federal government with that statement. Manchin is a Senator, Pelosi is the House minority leader she doesn’t hold any control over the Senate.

Manchin, whether you like him or not, is a very competent politician, and if you believe otherwise, then by all means, move to WV and throw your hat in the ring, since you think you know better than them how they should vote, I am sure they will respond wonderfully to your arrogance and telling them they are just too stupid to know what’s good for them.
