Pollster says immigration is politically weaponized in US
The Hill ^ | 10/16/2018 | Julia Manchester

Democratic pollster Anna Greenberg said in an interview that aired Tuesday on "What America's Thinking" that immigration has been politically weaponized in the U.S. ahead of November's midterm elections.

"I don't think we're having a policy debate in this election. I think we're having a cultural debate," she said.

She said that when it comes to immigration policy, people are fairly reasonable regardless of party.

"The problem is it's weaponized politically, and so that makes it much harder to have an actual rational debate about it," she said.

Seventy-five percent of Americans say they believe immigration, in general, is good for the country, according to a Gallup poll released earlier this year.

The survey also showed that 65 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning Independents view immigration positively, while 85 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents said the same.

Republicans, however, are much more likely than Democrats to see illegal immigration as a big problem.

A Pew Research survey conducted late last month showed that 75 percent of Republicans considered illegal immigration to be the highest-ranked national problem, while only 19 percent of Democrats thought so.

The article buries this at the end.

The problem is ILLEGAL 'immigration'.

I remember when Rove used CA for a model why immigration was a loosing issue for the GOP.
People tried to tell him that it was because the MSM in CA white washed the message to spin it their direction.

Rove was an overpriced fool.

“immigration has been politically weaponized”

Translation: This is an issue that works against us.
(”us” being understood by “journalists” to mean the Democratic Party)

Had Paul Ryan not been an open border freak the midterms would be a walk in the park.

All the NPC is regurg'ing is the favorite DNC talking point -- that nothing is an issue unless it's part of the DNC narrative.

Legal immigrants change the people, too. The GOP indulges in wishful thinking when they pretend that legal immigrants aren’t pushing American politics leftward. It’s legal immigrants who vote in California, and as the demographics changed we moved from Reagan Country to Obama Country. It’s not a coincidence.

Stop all immigration for 5 years. We need time to recover from this assault.

“I remember when cali was full on a red state. I lived there”

You have a long memory....

I moved here in 1966. I first began to notice a change in SoCal in the ‘70s. We of course got the refugees from Vietnam when the Communists overran the South in 1975.

Then got a whole lot of Iranians when Khomeini drove the Shah out. And in the 1980s you could see a big increase in illegals from Mexico.

Reagan’s amnesty was actually followed by a couple of years of noticeable drop in he number of illegals- they thought he was going to enforce the prohibitions that were part of the law. But Bush 41 put an end to that fear, the illegals soon realized he wasn’t going to enforce the border at all.

Clinton may actually have been slightly better on deportation than Bush 41, but not by much. It was in 1994 that grassroots California fought back by passing Prop 187, while being opposed by No Borders hacks in the national GOP- namely Jack Kemp, Bill Bennett, and the then Governor of Texas, GW Bush.

Then GW Bush got his chance as President and tried to ram amnesty through, doing nothing to deport the millions of illegals here in California, and in fact leaving that army for Obama to further exploit.

It should come as no surprise that this state is now a disaster. It will probably get even worse.

BOTH parties have been encouraging the illegal alien inundation while keeping the citizens from doing anything to stop it.

We finally have a President willing to enforce the laws and borders.

We have a small window of time while President Trump is in office to restore the rule of law and secure the border.
Removing Bush League Republicans from office is vital over the next three election cycles.
