While I look at pictures of these people, they all look well fed and have clean clothes on. Not something I would expet from people who have been walking/traveling for many miles.

I don’t think that big a step is needed. You can allow legal commerce through formal border crossings and increase patrols along the border...at the same stop the remittances that flow into Mexico and Central American countries. Stopping remittances will cause those countries to stop this flow of illegals much faster than even stopping formal U.S. aid.
Sarah Sanders has documentation that 75% of the last caravan parents signed over their kids to the camps. Tis fact never got to the news of course.
Since it worked for them before to get ‘a foot hold’ using their kids.. and the media... and all the activists and attorneys, judges..which they have lined up to “protect’ the kids. Keeping the kids in temporary camps while the parents sneak in otherwise at another time.

Yes, closing is something different entirely. The devil will be in the details...an Executive Order...which will have to be far more comprehensive than a tweet. If remittances are stopped - electronic transfers to Mexico and Central American countries - this charade will end in one day. Those countries are dependent upon that flow of money to maintain what passes for their economies.

Trump has threatened to pull back international aid from any country that allows caravan to pass to the US.

Technically, Trump could put the Marine Corps on the Border without declaring an Emergency. The Posse Comitatus Act does not explicitly limit the use of the Marine Corps or Navy on US Soil. The Department of the Navy instituted regulations that enforce the act on the US Navy and Marine Corps, however the CiC could suspend those regulations.
