One of the most used Vote.org features right now is also one of the most essential and cost effective. Not having stamps or a printer shouldn’t be a barrier to voting, but some states still require voter registration forms and mail-in ballot applications to be printed, signed with a pen, and mailed. This is a huge obstacle to voting that overwhelmingly impacts historically underrepresented voters, including young people and voters of color. So, over the summer, the Vote.org engineering team built new capabilities that enable voters in some states to have their forms printed and mailed to them with pre-paid return postage.

Since we turned on this feature just a few days ago, more than 12,000 Americans have used the print-and-mail tool extension to get their voter registration forms printed and mailed to them.

Our vendors understand the importance of what we are doing and have worked with us to lower costs. The cost per voter helped is only $1.25. Every contribution of $1.25 or more can cover the costs of printing and sending one voter their registration or mail-in ballot request form.

This feature is only available in states that still require forms to be printed and signed by hand, including Iowa and Texas. The more financial support we raise, the more voters across the country we will be able to help with this print-and-mail feature.

Vote.org has the experience and infrastructure to help millions of potential voters. Now, we need the resources to make sure we can have the maximum possible impact in advance of November 3.

From the beginning, Ruth Bader Ginsburg shattered glass ceilings. As one of only a handful of women in her law school, Ginsburg faced rampant sexism. But she persisted—and graduated at the top of her class.

As a young lawyer with impeccable credentials and sterling recommendations, she was rejected from a Supreme Court clerkship because of her gender. And when she was hired as a law professor—one of the first 20 women in our nation's history to achieve that feat—she was informed she would be paid less than her male colleagues.

Food trucks: Because traditional tactics like door-to-door canvassing are unsafe during the pandemic, we’ve developed a new tactic to reach people. Vote.org-branded food trucks are driving through neighborhoods and providing voting information and access to Vote.org’s tools through QR codes. We’ll be deploying these trucks through Election Day. The best part? The Vote.org food trucks are giving away thousands of free meals.
Early voting outreach: We’ve partnered with numerous influencers who represent the communities we are working to reach to help spread the word about early voting. This is a newer tactic that appears to be reaching young voters.
Peer-to-peer texting: We know from research that text messaging is one of the most powerful ways to increase voter turnout among young voters and voters of color. We’re sending texts to more than 7 million Americans reminding them to vote and helping them find their polling place.
Digital media and billboards: This year, we’ve adjusted all of our voter outreach strategies and tactics in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve invested in ads that reach people at home, including TV and digital ads, and we’ve placed “out-of-home” physical advertising near essential businesses like grocery stores and post offices where they’ll have the most visibility.
Partnerships: We’re working strategically with corporate partners to make voting easier for all Americans. We launched ElectionDay.org, which is helping more than 800 companies across industries remove work-related barriers to voting.
Vote.org is the most cost-effective voter turnout organization in America. We’re an 12-person team that operates at an extraordinary scale. We couldn’t do all of this without the support of people like you who understand what’s at stake on November 3.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

My friends, I don’t need to tell you we are living in a time of increasingly virulent politics and violent political threats, perpetrated in and by the Republican Party.

Just minutes after the U.S. House formally censured Representative Paul Gosar yesterday for posting an animated video on his official congressional social media accounts in which he assassinates Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacks President Joe Biden, Gosar retweeted the violent video.1 Only two House Republicans joined Democrats to censure Gosar, who had defended his video by saying it “symbolizes the battle for the soul of America.”2

The New York Times reports that at a conservative rally in western Idaho last month, a young man stepped up to a microphone to ask when he could start killing Democrats. “When do we get to use the guns?” he said as the audience applauded. “How many elections are they going to steal before we kill these people?” The local state representative, a Republican, later called it a “fair” question.3

Republicans who break party ranks and defy Trump have come to expect death threats—often fueled by their own colleagues who have denounced them as traitors. The 13 House Republicans who voted last week for President Biden’s infrastructure bill are getting death threats—such as a caller who told Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois to slit his wrists and “rot in hell”—and party leaders are calling for them to be stripped of their committee assignments ... because they voted for a bill that invests in roads, bridges, and broadband in their communities.4,5

This is the modern Republican Party, and we cannot allow them back into power. Not this Republican Party. Ever.

Control of the House and Senate are up for grabs in the midterm elections next year, and every single indicator of who will win those elections—presidential approval, gerrymandering, the generic congressional ballot (which asks people if they’d choose a Republican or Democrat to represent them in Congress), special elections, retirements, and candidate recruitment—is pointing in the wrong direction.

Let’s be clear: We have a path to win. It’s turning out the 26 million people who did not vote in 2016 but voted for Biden in 2020. But it’s an uphill battle, , and we have to get serious right now to be able to make it happen.

And that’s why I’m writing to you today. MoveOn is building a war chest to replicate the grassroots get-out-the-vote effort that was so successful in 2020.

Unless those at the highest levels of government who foment or encourage violence—or those who remain conspicuously silent—are held accountable, no one in political life will be safe.

According to The New York Times, violent threats against lawmakers are on track to double this year.6

GOP Representative Fred Upton of Michigan has received multiple death threats in the days since he voted for President Biden’s infrastructure bill. One caller left a voicemail saying, “You’re a f-—ing piece-of-s-— traitor. I hope you die.” The man went on to say he hopes Upton’s family and his entire staff die.7

This is today’s Republican Party. We have to be clear-eyed about it, .

Imagine what members of Congress like Marjorie Taylor Greene would do if Republicans had the majority and the power to subpoena witnesses. Or what senators like Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz would do if they were allowed to chair committee hearings.

We could see the racist lies and conspiracy theories currently confined to fringe corners of the internet thrust into the halls of Congress and given official legitimacy. The election fraud lies that sparked the January 6 white supremacist attack on the U.S. Capitol would be once again lifted up front and center at the highest levels of our government.

We must do everything we can to make sure these people are never allowed back in power.
