Over Half Of America Gets More In Welfare Than It Pays In Taxes
Mises ^ | October 24, 2018 | Ryan McCaken

More than half of Americans receive more money in various types of government transfer payments (Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, Social Security) than they pay in federal taxes.1

According to a report released this year by the Congressional Budget Office, only the top two income quintiles in the United States pay more in taxes than they receive in government transfers.

Not surprisingly, the lowest income quintiles receive far more in transfers than they pay in taxes:

I’m with you. Lumping Medicare and Soc Sec in w/ welfare is what they used to do with: “Oh yeah? Well coffee is a drug too; so there!”

If anyone wants to call social security “welfare”, I’d gladly let the SSA buy me out — lump sum.

Yup. This BS from the idiot that medicare and social security are transfer payments is typical libertarian nonsense. People paid into both programs. It is OUR money, not the govts.

This is the type of crap garbage that causes repubs to lose elections.

Cutting welfare to illegal aliens would pay for Trump’s wall

My two Childhood Friends who both passed away at age 61 paid into SS and Medicare their entire Working Careers.

I would estimate that between the two of them they paid at least $500,000 if not more into the System.

What did they get back from that lifelong “investment”, zilch, zero, nada, not a dime. Well, one of their Families did get $255 to help pay for the Container holding their Ashes.

Cutting welfare to illegal aliens (and cutting illegal aliens) would pay for Trump’s wall...(and shore up Social Security...)

My mother paid into the system for about 4 years,in the early 40s,she lived until age 91-————and got SS checks, only about $190.00 a month, for 26 years——waaaaaay more than she paid in.

Of course it would. Getting their damn kids out of our schools would be a local windfall. Or course the locals would just piss it away and come back for more.

There must be something mind warping and addictive about spending OPM. I wouldn’t know about that since I’ve nener done it.

If my SS retirement benefits are “welfare”, then why am I forced to include them in my Adjusted Gross Income and required to pay Federal and State income tax on them?

Yep, but I’ll bet there are more People who die much younger than live to that ripe old age.

I started collecting at age 62 because I was diagnosed with Leukemia in my early 50’s. Because I was still working, I ended up being Taxed on most of my SS.

I am closing in on the “sell by” date my Oncologist estimated when I was diagnosed. Who knows if his estimate was close, but I got what I could get up to this point.

I almost bought the Farm a few years ago when my Immune system took a Vacation and I contracted Pneumonia.

I have “Contributed” over $300,000 into SS and Medicare over my Lifetime. Our Finance guy estimated that had that Money been invested over the last 50 Years, I would have been a Multi Millionaire by the time I reached my full Retirement Age of 66.

My personal opinion, start raising the SS Retirement date by one Month a Year for the next 36 Years. That would eventually make the “early” retirement Age 65 and the “full” retirement Age 70.

People are living longer than ever. When SS started the average guy dropped dead at age 65, putting the Ponzi in Ponzi scheme.

That makes PERFECT sense-——something has to be done.

I wish you well regarding your health issues.

The whole article is funky. It talks about transfer payments in.....are these ALL ( Federal, State, Local ) vs just Federal Tax? Does this include IRS tax or does it also include payroll taxes?

Of course my folks in their late 80’s get more from Uncle Sam than what they pay in tax.....no shit. They paid in for years. I am certain they are making out on the Ponzi Scheme due to how long they have lived vs how long they worked, but to use their situation to skew stats is misleading.

Like most of the dumbass polls we see, the devil is in the details and nobody even bothers to consider the details. Steve Miller would say, “they take their numbers and run”

immigrants and illegals get government handouts- some to the tune of nearly $45,000 per year after they get done soaking America for all it’s worth and applying for every handout available- nearly 65
% of immigrants are on some form of government handout program

Report: More than half of immigrants on welfare

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/09/01/immigrant-welfare-use-report/71517072/

(The above is a report from 2015- recent reports have claimed nearly 65% now are on welfare or some form of handout-

Of course it would. Getting their damn kids out of our schools would be a local windfall.

Paying for illegals to use emergency rooms for treating a common cold would save us $3,000 per visit per illegal too... as opposed to what it would cost to see a doctor - for $75.

Of course the hospitals are in on the scam - they charge the full amount to treat an illegal (knowing they'll never collect) - then writing it as a loss on their taxes. That way taxpayers get screwed-over several times... by the illegal, the hospital, the doctors involved, (IRS not getting what they should from all the parasites who feed off illegals) etc.

The US spends 134 billion ... on illegal aliens. Calif 21 billion.

Does that number include extra schools built, extra teachers hired, more hospitals, more emergency rooms, more prisons, larger court systems, and additional rehab centers?

Or are you just referring to what the ingrates cost us in welfare and food-stamps?

SS is a discrete system that derives all of its income from payroll taxes and interest from its non-market T-bills in the SSTF. Cutting welfare to illegal aliens will not impact SS.

ALL of commercial medicine is the industrial complex we should fear. Their mission is to shake every dime from our pockets before we die and the nickles out of our dead eyes.
