1 TIMOTHY 1:14-16
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
“Howbeit FOR THIS CAUSE I obtained mercy, that in ME FIRST Jesus Christ might show forth all LONGSUFFERING, FOR A PATTERN to them which should HEREAFTER BELIEVE ON Him to life everlasting.””

It’s a pattern, in my opinion.

Take the least suitable, least equipped, and most handicapped and carry out God’s will with that person.

I think it’s how the end plays out too - remove every single believer, leave nothing but unbelievers. God still prevails.

All the reasons in David’s article have merit. There is another reason - Paul was literate, in that he could write letters to the various groups of converts, letters that have withstood the test of time.

Paul’s letters have greatly influenced the Christian church throughout the 2 thousand years of its existence. God always has known what was best for the church. He knew Paul was a zealot and that after conversion he would be fierce fighter for Jesus Christ.

Because He knew Paul would really get the concept of Jesus sacrifice covering ALL our sins...Peter had trouble letting go of traditional Jewish teachings/requirements.

The thing that surprises me most about Paul is that his ministry was directed towards the gentiles and not the Jews, given his background, knowledge and experience. God is full of surprises.

It shows that the Lord can use anyone for His Kingdom, to preach His Gospel, no matter what their past is or what they’ve done. And so tremendous is that witness!

And no mention of the real reason:

He was the chief of sinners who conspired to murder an innocent man.

If such an arrogant, self-righteous murderer can be saved and used, then so can anyone.

I wish people would read the Gospels for comprehension.
