Two tourists facing 10 years in jail for graffiti-tagging an ancient wall in Thailand say they were ridiculously drunk when they pulled off the stunt. Canadian Brittany Schneider, 22, and British man Lee Furlong, 23, were caught on CCTV on Thursday spray-painting a message on the wall of the 13th century Tha Pae Gate in Chiang Mai.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son...
Excellent! Lock them up!
No real interest in reading the article, however, if it is an attempt to elicit sympathy, it would fail with me.
That would not go down well on ANY 13th century gate.
Whatever you do, don’t look for the picture of Britany.
I recall being at one of my dad’s union functions in the middle sixties. One of the union members had killed a couple of people while drunk driving. I overhead him explaining the reason was he was drunk. The response of sympathy for this man surprised me. My reasoning was that something he had done to himself had facilitated his killing several innocent people. The response of sympathy for the killer instead of the dead was a surprise. I recall hearing several times in high school, “Yeah, but I was drunk.” This seemed to satisfy the listeners and forgive whatever had happened. But, I noticed over the years that the pendulum swung and being drunk was no longer an acceptable excuse.
These people trying to use the, “yeah, but I was drunk,” excuse are anachronisms. I suppose it was the only thing they could come up with because some things are too stupid...period.
Well, hell. Too late.
I just sent this to my son and his wife who are living in Chiang Mai at present. We were just there visiting in early October and I can tell you, they are very serious about their laws. For example: You are not allowed to say ANYTHING negative about the king to the point that even in his divorce hearings, his ex-wife was not allowed to “disparage” him so he came out smelling like a rose and she lost everything.
With that body mass, she would had to drink twice as much as the idiot guy she was with to get that drunk.
BTW - They don’t look drunk, just stupid.
He defaced an ancient wall that survived centuries until an idiot with a spray can showed up. I am not too sympathetic.
No excuse for defacing religios sites. Enjoy jail, Morons.
What kind of idiot, drunk or not, thinks spray painting on an ancient city wall is a good idea regardless? Do they have no respect for other people’s things/ history/ culture at all?
Anyone know how the Thai’s are likely to dispose of this? A 13th century wall is the last wall Id tag in a foreign country.
“They came across a bottle of spray-paint and decided to use it.”
I often ‘Come Across’ a can of Spray Paint on my walks.....
Getting drunk is a choice usually. Once you are drunk you may not be your sober self but you are still you and just as responsible.
They ought to be punished, but ten years is a bit much, if you ask me.
