Retired airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed the famous "miracle on the Hudson," said Monday that “this is not the America I know and love” in a message encouraging voter participation ahead of the midterm elections.
Sullenberger wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post that he “witnessed the best in people” on Jan. 15, 2009, when he led 154 people to safety by making an emergency landing on the Hudson River after a malfunction. ADVERTISEMENT
"To navigate complex challenges, all leaders must take responsibility and have a moral compass grounded in competence, integrity and concern for the greater good," he wrote.
Tragically, people in positions in power today are not projecting their best, Sullenberger wrote.
“Many are cowardly, complicit enablers, acting against the interests of the United States, our allies and democracy; encouraging extremists at home and emboldening our adversaries abroad; and threatening the livability of our planet.”

Around 1982 I was working out of the Federal Building in Norfolk. I had an investigation on a guy who it turned out was the Son of an airline pilot.
It turned out to be nothing but the guy I met was the pilot out front working in his yard. The old guy was probably in his 60s. He must have been very senior as he was making over $120,000 a year and that was 1982 dollars.
Anyway we got into a conversation and the guy was one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. I did not know anything about flying and he patiently answered my questions and he clearly knew what he was talking about.
One thing was I was in a jet landing in Wichita and began to hear a real screech from somewhere. All the passengers were looking at each other. He told me it was probably an air bearing in an engine. Not a critical happening tho he said they could really make a noise.
Oh yes, he was very conservative. Also gave you the feeling that you could put your life in his hands and be as safe as possible.

Every point in that statement applies to Democrats, not Republicans. Even the threatening the livability of our plant statement can be taken to mean the progressive funding of domestic terrorists and illegals.
Sully was 18th Squadron Class of ‘73. I was next door in 19th Squadron Class of ‘73. Sully is an honorable man who happens to be a registered Republican. I trust he will vote with us in November.
