Sen. Joe Donnelly (Ind.), a conservative Democrat in one of the tightest reelection battles in the country, made a cringeworthy and puzzling statement about some minorities on his staff during a debate Tuesday night. To begin, heres a quick vocab refresher. The definition of the word but, according to Google, is to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned."
So it was strange when Donnelly, in what seemed like a genuine effort to compliment his aides, said this when asked how he would bring diversity into his staffing: Our state director is Indian American, but he does an amazing job. Our director of all constituent services, shes African American, but she does an even more incredible job than you could ever imagine.

It’s the same as Liberals saying that people on the Right try to use the excuse that they can’t be Racist because they have a (token) Black friend.
Kind of the reverse of Don Lemon having a token White Boyfriend gives him the right to call White Men Terrorists.
Anyone who would listen. They were different times. And for what it’s worth, my mother taught me to treat other people as I’d want to be treated myself.

I hear you. I seriously respect your words. BUT, myself as a boy in the 50's with my family ......... we would have NEVER chosen to use that qualifier.
BUT, as I said earlier, your location in the country may have dictated a different behavior and speech at the time.
To me ......... the word, "BUT", was completely indicative of a subconscious feeling by candidate Donnelly.
No sweat!
Next Wednesday things will be very good for D.J.T.'s followers. Next Wednesday things will be better for America.
