'It's a ghost page': EPA site's climate change section may be gone for good

More than a year after the US Environmental Protection Agency took down information on climate change from its website for an “update”, it now seems uncertain whether it will ever reappear.

In April last year, the EPA replaced its online climate change section with a holding page that said the content was being updated to “reflect the agency’s new direction under President Donald Trump”.

Information previously found at epa.gov/climatechange made it clear that human activity was warming the planet, resulting in harm to Americans’ health as well as crucial ecosystems on which humans depend.

The “update” page has now given way to a page that simply states: “We want to help you find what you are looking for.” There are links to search the EPA website, as well as to an archived “snapshot” of the site from the day before Trump became president in January 2017.

“It’s an embarrassment. It is a ghost page,” said Judith Enck, who was EPA regional administrator during Barack Obama’s presidency. “It’s a bit like Amazon not allowing the public to order books – it’s that fundamental. There’s no other issue at the EPA more important than climate change; it affects air, water, health and whether large parts of the world will survive.”

Enck said that EPA career staff are “frustrated” and “ashamed” about the new stance on climate change and urged her former colleagues to speak out.

The administration also began taking the ax to climate change language across other government websites in the spring of 2017.

“The EPA website is used by decision and policy makers,” she said. “The lack of timely, accurate information is part of a much deeper problem that the agency is on the sidelines of the most urgent environment issue of our time.”

The EPA was contacted for comment.

I’m sure it’s on a backup tape...like Hillary Clinton’s email server was.

I’ve been shutting these people down by just saying “can’t we all agree that pollution is bad and needs to be stopped everywhere? We ALL agree on that”

Then you can explain to them that the government “climate change” programs have had more to do with transferring huge piles of money than cleaning up pollution.

Jim, I have always believed Reagan was the greatest president in the past 100 years, but I may need to change that to Trump really soon.

Trump is out-Reaganing Reagan, at about double the speed.

The Obama EPA targeted political opponents and used private email accounts to coordinate such harassment.

A lie repeated over and over and reinforced by lies begins to take on the aura of truth

The outcry is evidence that the change is bitingly harmful to the liars

I don't think I could ever get tired of this.

And Administrators should be disinterested. Neither advocates for, nor opponents of, Federal Regulation. They should simply implement policy and enforce regulations as they are currently written.

This administrator's words show how utterly bereft of ethics the former administration was.

One big pet peeve of mine:

They used to call it Global Warming.

Then one day, everyone was saying Climate Change.

However, if the climate gets cooler, dryer, wetter or hotter; all these things are climate change.

But the proponents call it climate change, when really they mean the Earth, due to mankind’s activity, is getting hotter (due to CO2), so the remaining continental ice sheets melt enough to catastrophically raise sea levels, drowning vast human inhabited regions, and causing cold weather species to die off and the artic permafrost to melt and release deadly clouds of frozen methane into the atmosphere.

Is that about right?

Then it’s still ANTHROPOGENIC (caused by man) Global Warming, NOT Climate Change.

The sneaky name change implies they’re trying to pull a fast one over the public.

They are.

Because there isn’t enough evidence to prove any anthropogenic global warming. The Earth’s temperature has risen 1.5 degrees Celsius since 1980, but there is no evidence this was caused by human activity. If it was, then the more CO2 humans put in the air (and this may not be measurable distinctly from diverse natural causes) then we should see a definitive rise in temperatures. But we don’t see this, as we have a well-documented “hiatus” of rising temperatures that defy their theory.

So to hide this and other opinions, they changed the name entirely so they could use ANY measurement of temperature and humidity to “prove” mankind is causing it.

The EPA website should have items related to the mission it has, based on the laws passed by Congress. It is not a general information site, or a political activist site.

If they don't like it could they quit, or are their credentials too poor to ever get a real job?

““The EPA website is used by decision and policy makers,” she said. “The lack of timely, accurate information is part of a much deeper problem that the agency is on the sidelines of the most urgent environment issue of our time.”.........Lack of timely & accurate information is what caused the EPA to get as far afield as it was before Pres. Trump brought it back down to earth. It was high time it was brought back to reality.
